braid problems

last year i was having issues with my braided line it was spider wire 50lb stealth braid but occasionally my line would snap when i casted. i checked my guides and none were missing the inserts or had an edge on them. i use a Palomar knot when it comes to braid. it always seemed to happen to frogs and jigs and not necessarily hard casts either but it would just go tink and there goes my lure off into the abyss

Some people get away with a regular palomar knot for braid others will advocate specialized knots. Depending on the conditions you fish, you may be experiencing abrasion issues that a leader will help. Braid has no stretch and as such does not absorb shock well. If you are doing a snap cast with heavier baits, you may need to just ease up a little on those.

If you get any kind of backlash or if the line on the spool gets loose, it can create a loop underneath, in the spool. This loop gets weak because it is kinked. If that happens pull off enough line past the loop that is caught underneath, then reel back in with enough tension on the line.

I have braid issues in rocks.  It doesn't hold up very well.  That is when I go to a leader.

Just a shot in the dark, but I've had this happen to me and figured out that it was the braid biting into itself on the spool. In other words, big fish, snag, whatever... the braid would bite down into the spool. On your next cast, the spool goes around stops and stops dead at that spot; especially if it's not too far from the top of the spool. So, your snap cast sends the lure flying, and the line lays back on your spool going the wrong way. Like a said, shot in the dark, but it has happened to me enough times for it to become frustrating.

I've seen this happen as well. I also saw a dude thread the line through the hook ( ) keeper once with comical results.

I use a Palomar knot but I add a twist after the knot is tied with the tag end I'll make 3 overhand knots with the main line I have never lost a lure that way.

I use about 18" of leader tied to a bb swivel and usually a duolock snap.  My braid fares pretty well and I do fish over rocks and coral constantly, checking your line is a must.  Often I can go for days without having to re tie my braid at the swivel, I use a simple clinch knot, same knot and braid test (20# max) I use for pelagic species.

My buddies friend had this problem a lot.  Turned out he wasn't letting the rod load up enough on the casts.  Soon as he started casting more fluently, problem was resolved.  It will happen every once in a while though, when your catching them big ol' sows!!!

i think its from hard snap casts it happens alot when i get mad or frustrated lol wich just compounds the problem

I think the only time I have seen that happen is if you have a birds nest and don't clear the tangled line before rocketing out your next cast, the line hits the dead end and snap.

I've never had the problem myself.

Spiderwire Stealth is decent braid shouldn't be the line.

I would say you have a partial backlash when you attempt to hard snap cast for this to occur.

A larger diameter line and a more controlled cast could be your answer.

The above will help a bunch. Let the rod do the work, don't try and cast a mile out there.

It's the line, not the knot. Spiderwire, in my experience, has a tendency to cut into itself. Had this problem a few years back. Diawa Samuari is the way to go. I know it's a bit more expensive then all the rest but I haven't lost a lure yet with it.

its not breaking down by the spool when it does snap its like the first 6 inches of the line after the knot anywhere from 1 to 6 inches up the line. cuz iv gone swimming to get some of them lucky lures back lol

I was fishing from the bank a year or two ago and lost a Spro frog when the Stealth braid I was using did that.  I would definitely recommend different line.
