Stasher1 Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Pflueger President XT - $79.99 Shimano Sahara FD - $79.99 Pflueger Supreme - $99.99 Shimano Symetre FJ - $99.99 I prefer Pflueger reels, but the Shimanos in that price range are pretty solid choices as well. BPS spinning reels generally get mixed reviews, and the Quantums in that price range tend to be much heavier than comparable reels from the other manufacturers. Quote
Loomis24 Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 I have the 8030 Pflueger Supreme. Have it paired with my veritas. I like mine and would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice spinning reel. It is lighter than quantum models Quote

I returned the KVD reel and I'm very satisfied with the Catalyst-B20. I have the Kinetic and the Sahara and of the two I will take another Kinetic over the Sahara. The Sahara hasn't performed well at all and is one of my least used combos. I've never owned a Pflueger but I have heard good things about them and based on that I would say it would be a good choice as well. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted February 28, 2011 Super User Posted February 28, 2011 For those presentations get one of the models with the 6:+ gear ratio. Quote

BassinfromNC Posted February 28, 2011 Author Posted February 28, 2011 The JM sig series claims to cast long, any other reels that are known for casting long?? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 28, 2011 Super User Posted February 28, 2011 You need to at least take a look at the Symetre 2500FJ: http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/index/products/reels/spinning/Symetre_FI.html 8-) Quote
BassinfromNC Posted February 28, 2011 Author Posted February 28, 2011 You need to at least take a look at the Symetre 2500FJ: 8-) On my list to consider. Do you think theirs any truth to the claim that a shorter wider spool like JM increases casting length? Quote
Super User islandbass Posted February 28, 2011 Super User Posted February 28, 2011 You need to at least take a look at the Symetre 2500FJ: 8-) On my list to consider. Do you think theirs any truth to the claim that a shorter wider spool like JM increases casting length? If spooled to optimum capacity, then yes by the width of the spool. More line will come off of a spool per coil on a wider one than that of a narrower one. That's straight forward. With that said, long casts can be easily made with spinning gear anyway and other things like reliability and longevity have a far greater bearing and weight on my decision than longer casts when buying a reel. Might be a rookie question but narrower spools more accurate then wider? Less memory? Quote
Ern Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 I have the Symetre myself and love it. I also just got a 600 Series Abu Cardinal. Specs match the SoronSX and it was only $50. Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Shop, shop and shop ! I managed to get an in store special last year on Shimano Soros 3000's for 97.00 each. They just had a two day deal with Symetre 2500's in a clam pack for 59.97, limit of two per customer. The new 2011 models are just now out so there should be some 2010 models at great prices available. Quote
