Hi guys,

I just purchased this reel and am trying to make it a right hand retrieve. The problem is the little plastic cover that screws on the opposite side of the handle doesnt fit. It only fits on the right side for the left hand retrieve. What gives??

Did you cross-thread it when you tried to put the cap on the left? My only Pflueger reel is an older 4730 Trion, but the cap screws on both sides no problem.

After trying to figure this out for a few hours I might have an idea. I don't think the the thread from the reel side comes out far enough towards the lip. The cap isnt deep/long enough to catch the thread.

Pflueger reels thread directly onto the main gear they don't have a nut on the opposite side like most spinning reels. There is only a cap on the opposite side from the handle. I don't believe it threads onto anything. YOu have to hold the spool while you thread the handle into the main gear.

Man that stinks.  I have that exact reel and use a right-handed retrieve and had no problem with the cap fitting on the left side.   :-/

I called Pflueger. They said the thread must be stripped and to take it back to the retailer. I hope the bait monkey doesn't get in my ear when I'm there!
