Hello, about two years ago i broke down an older abu round reel for a cleaning. But upon putting it back together it seems i either lost a peice or put it  back together wrong.

Anyways, everything on it seems to be working correctly except the handle will reel in both ways. It doesn't stop like it should.

Anyways does anyone happen to know what peice of the reel im missing or what not? Also if it is a peice im missing where could i get it?

Thanks!!

Oh btw the reel is an older Abu Ambassadeur 5000 red round reel. Its the older style made in sweden.

I would go on Abu Garcia's website and check for the parts schematics.  They have many of the older models listed, hopefully your model will be there.

If I were to guess, there would be a gear like piece that fits around the shaft of the main gear.  The newer baitcasting reels have a bearing that typically fits between the same gear shaft and the side plate that only allows one direction of handle turn.  My best bet is to take it apart again and see if you have all of the parts as shown by a schematic.  If you are missing a part, call abu garcia.  There were many round reels made back in the day and I am sure that there would be replacement parts.

Thank you. I will go check out their website right now and see if i can find a schematic. Hopefully there will be one since this is an older reel.

If anyone happens to know what im missing please let me know. I'd be appreciated!  :)

Sounds like you don't have the anti-reverse dog (#5134) installed, or it is installed incorrectly. The AR dog must sandwich the return ratchet plate that is part of the crank shaft.

Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

Totally agree. #5134 is it.

That's part for sure. Make sure it rides freely on the pin and that there is a little grease between the plates that cover the AR ratchet. Orient the dog so that when back-reeled the ratchet teeth are caught by the flat side of the dog.
