Can someone offer some honest feedback on the 2010 model for me?

I am looking for a new lefty baitcaster. Strongly considering another Shimano for my new setup.

I have a Shimano Curado (love the reel, hate the color) and a Revo Winch (love the smooth feel and the drag) currently.

Thanks for your time!

Well, your posting on the Shimano Curado forum so your not gonna get nothing but advise for it!  Apples and oranges, comparing a $199 and a $269 reel. The Premier should be better.

I got rid of my Curados and got a few Premiers. Love the things. I got 3 lefties and with 7.1 high speed. Couldn't be happier.

I don't have a 2010 Premier, but I have a 2009. I know that they're not exactly the same reel, but I like it better than the Curado.

Do some searching here and on other forums on the Premier. I think you'll find almost universal praise for them. Just be careful to understand if folks are talking about the older one or the newer, 10 bearing model. The older one was not a horrible reel, but the new one is a real home run for Abu with it's stronger drag, swept handle, more bearings and dual braking system.

Anyway, I have both the new model Premier (4 of them, actually) and a Curado E7. The E7 is a good workhorse reel. Throws larger baits well and is pretty smooth for a reel in that price range. But the Premier is more versatile. It's very happy throwing anything from light baits to heavy baits, is super smooth, has a very strong drag, is easy to adjust for changing conditions/lures, etc. Just a very impressive reel. You can find good deals on them if you look around, too.

I got my first Premier last year and now I have 4.  I think they're a great reel.

I have 2 2010 Premiers and 1 2009. I love them both, and will be getting another. Mechanically they are a 10 out of 10. The only fault I find is they develop boat rash fairly easy. I haven't used Shimano reels in years, but have to agree with you on the color. LOL

I bought the 2010 premier last summer and I could not be happier.  Outstanding reel(light, nice drag, small profile), the handles are extremely nice.  My dad owns a curado and personally i would chose my premier over that any day of the week no question about it.  good luck

Mmm, maybe I took the wrong turn the Premier highway.  I have an 09 Preimer and a year old Curado E5.  I havent had a problem with either, but I am thinking about getting rid of the preimier to get the new E50.  Caught plenty of fish with each, but I just have more faith in the Curado day in and day out.

The 2010 Premier is by far a superior reel in every category.  I have both and have fished both extensively.

The Premier just excels at everything much better then the Curado.  Casting light baits, smoothness, drag, etc... and the dual braking system on the Premier is just superb.

Later, :)

I have both. E5 and 2010 premier. Crank with the E5 and jig and carolina rig with the premier. Love them both. But the premier isn't worth $100 more. I bought mine at BPS last year with $50 reel trade in. If they were the same price the premier would be the way to go but use the extra cash to get a Dobyns rod and slap a Curado on there.

The 09 he's talking about is the older model I was talking about above. The new style, 10 bearings ones came out as 2010 models.

I agree with the thught process.  I am going to pick up an STX soon.  Can't wait for the water to thaw.

PERFORMANCE-WISE the Premier is turning out to be an excellent replacement for the Daiwa TD Z series.  It falls a bit short cosmetically but I'll take smooth casting, smooth drag and smooth retrieve over eye candy.

In the end this won out. I grabbed a Curado 51E on sale to fill this need.

Nothing against the Revo just like the feel of the Curado a touch better.
