MDD01 Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Hey guys just looking for some advice. I currently have a quantum accurist on a 7ft MH BPS extreme rod that i've had for around 5 years and it's also the only casting combo i've owned. I'm looking to get another set up and i've decided to get the curado as i've seen nothing but positive reviews. I try to fish in and around the fingerlakes and try use a large array of baits. all sorts of soft plastics, topwater, spinners, cranks, and as of last summer i tried fishing jigs for the first time. Now for the questions: If you were to have 2 setups with one being being the accurist/extreme and the other curado/xxx how would you have it? What would be a good rod for the curado? (price range = $125ish Any advice would be awesome, thanks! Quote
WanderLust Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 What's the Curado's primary function? I have a 201E7 that's mounted on a 7' St. Croix Avid MHF. I use it for a ton of different applications including 3/8 oz and up jigs, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, topwater, traps & even frogs... I just picked up the 51E for a Loomis BCR803 for weightless plastics, smaller finesse type applications, jerkbaits and small cranks. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 The setup you have is pretty versatile all around bass rig. You could duplicate the setup or go either with a MH/Mod or Mod-F action for your trebel hook lures or a Hvy/F for jigging thicker cover. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted February 25, 2011 Super User Posted February 25, 2011 Since you have a MH powered rod already, I'd use that to handle my "single" hook lures (T-rigs, jigs, etc.) and get me a M powered rod to handle the treble hook lures (topwaters, cranks, and lighter plastics). Since you're limited to two, that is what I would do. The E7 is more than capable of casting lures weighing 3/16 oz so I'd put the Curado on this 2nd M powered rod. Quote
MDD01 Posted February 25, 2011 Author Posted February 25, 2011 Thanks for the replies! I was originally planning to get the revo sx/vendetta combo because of the positive reviews and i liked the stylish look of black and red. then i saw that a bunch abu fans have turned into shimano fans, so figured i'd have to try this reel. The extreme rod broke its tip about 2 years ago and i had to replace the tip. Sometimes the replacement tip gets lose and swivels around. If i were to upgrade the extreme to a better/different rod what would you do then? So from what you all have given me: -M action rod for treble hook baits (cranks, topwater, spinners etc..) What length would you recommend? - MH action rod for single hook baits (jigs, tex rigs, senkos, tube jigs etc..) 7' length? -What reel for what rod would you recommend? The accurist is a 6:3:1 ratio i believe. As for brands of rods what do you recommend for each? I know, a lot of questions, but i like to do plenty of research before i spend. Thanks again guys.. MDD01 Posted February 25, 2011 Author Posted February 25, 2011 Another quick question.. what kind of deals can one expect from the bass pro classic sale?? I've seen the daily specials and the "reel trade in" on the website. Do they do markdowns on everything else as well? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 25, 2011 Super User Posted February 25, 2011 Most of the best prices are mark downs on BPS branded product. The only "super deal" that really got my attention was the Bomber Square A for $1.97. 8-) Quote

Shimano doesn't participate in the Bass Pro Shop reel trade in.So you won't be able to get a shimano with a reel trade in.I believe Abu Garcia,Quantum and Daiwa does. Quote
MDD01 Posted February 25, 2011 Author Posted February 25, 2011 Yeah i noticed that the trade-in wouldn't work with shimano reels. Even if you could trade a reel in for a shimano I think the deals on ebay are a little better. Quote
A-Rob Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 brand of your choice, whatever feels good in your hands. But I like 7'0 MH baitcasting rods b/c I find them the most versatile. Quote

You should be able to get a rod that fishes at least as well, if not better than, a factory rod of the same price. Everyone deserves at least one custom rod. Be careful tho. I've heard this route can be addictive! Mike will work with you to determine exactly what rod will work best for the techniques you want to fish. My first custom rod purchase is a rod for my daughter, Bummer! ;D ;D She likes fishing plastics, wanted a short rod and the rod had to be pink. Quote
MDD01 Posted February 26, 2011 Author Posted February 26, 2011 How much does a custom rod usually run for? Custom rod building seems really interesting. Theres so many choices for rods, its so overwhelming. I think i might just keep the accurist/extreme combo and use that for spinner and cranks while the new setup will be used for jigging/worming/topwater Quote
