GLoomis711 Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 What is everyones flipping matted grass/ Punching setup? Rod, Line, Reel. I'm curious to see everyones, but make sure you post the specific type of braid, not just what size. Quote
Fat-G Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 I'm probably going to get a 7'11 MHXF Cumara for flipping/pitching, with a Curado or Chronarch and 50#-65# PowerPro. That will mostly be for flipping plastics and jigs in hard and soft cover, but I imagine it will be a very versitile rod as well. Quote

fishingkidPA Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 why are long rods preferred? do they allow you to pitch farther? Quote

JigMe Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 I picked up a new setup this year for my pitching/flipping; Abu Garcia Verdict 7'6" Heavy XF with Abu Garcia STX 7:1 ratio. I like a longer rod for casting distance, and you can retrive your Jig back faster with a high speed reel so you can pitch it out quicker. Quote

GLoomis711 Posted February 23, 2011 Author Posted February 23, 2011 I'm still learning on this technique, and have liked an 8' rod better than the 7'6''. Punching is the only technique that I use actual flipping, and the 8 rod lets me flip a little further. Quote

I dont use it a whole lot.. I find that I use my 7' MH powell for everything... its so light and sensitive... When I use it I enjoy it.. I get a lot of questions and comments from my bass club members.. Its heavier than the powell, but then again it is also a foot longer than any other rod i own.. So i dont really have anything to compare it to.. Havent had any problems with it and try to use it every trip! Quote

OH-bass614 Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 For the nasty stuff i use a 7'10" X heavy duckett micro magic with a 200e7 and 65-80lb power pro. After using it everything else feels like a broomstick For lighter stuff i use a 7ft heavy veritas and a 200e7 with whatever line the cover calls for. Quote

WdyCrankbait Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Thanks for the input so far guys. Thank you G! I was getting ready to ask the same question and now I get to read all about the resposnes! One question guys, is the higher speed ratio reels needed, or could I do it with a Curado 200E5? Quote
Dan-K Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 I'm using a Castaic (6.1) and I think it is a good comprimise. It's not too slow and you dont sacrifice that much torque (for pulling the hogs out of the thick stuff). Quote
