BASS fisherman Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Just curious since you usually hear jerkbaits are a clear water lure. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 19, 2008 Super User Posted February 19, 2008 They work just fine in stained water, too. 8-) Quote
Super User Tin Posted February 19, 2008 Super User Posted February 19, 2008 I plan on catching some smallies in a muddy river pool this afternoon after school. 8-) Quote
Infidel. Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 I've done pretty good in muddy water with a clown colored Husky Jerk. But in stained or clear water I go with the Tenn shad. I have found that it is most effective in clear water though. Quote
ba7ss3in Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 clear water, haven't used them in muddy water Quote
heathen Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Clear and stained, never had any luck in muddy water. Quote

Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted February 19, 2008 Super User Posted February 19, 2008 I've caught a few in dirty water, however, most of my success has been in clear to stained water. Falcon Quote

skillet Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 I voted all of the above. Sometimes it's like a top water bait, get caught up in the moment and just d**n well have to throw one :-[... As Ever, skillet Quote
Super User RoLo Posted February 20, 2008 Super User Posted February 20, 2008 I fish hard jerkbaits mainly in water with fair to excellent visibility. Jerkbaits are paused a lot, so in murky water an interested bass may fall off point. In murky water I would sooner reach for a rat-l-trap or other noisy plug. Roger Quote
Super User T-rig Posted February 20, 2008 Super User Posted February 20, 2008 Jerkbaits are paused a lot, so in murky water an interested bass may fall off point. Use a straight retrieve in murky water. The Jackall Smash Minnow has pretty loud rattles and works well in murky water. Quote
Cujo Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 Caught plenty of bass in stained H2O, but really haven't tried them in muddy H2O. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted February 20, 2008 Super User Posted February 20, 2008 Clear and stained. Most of the water I fish is stained. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted February 20, 2008 Super User Posted February 20, 2008 Clear water for me. I have not really tried them in stained water, most all of our water is gin clear in the spring when I fish jerkbaits the most, by the time the water stains up in the summer I have found cranks and spinner baits to produce better for me.
