Crankenstein_MI Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Looking to buy a 6'6 jerkbait rod and a deep cranker. What ya'all think about ducketts? Quote
AbuGarcia-4-Life Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I know when E21 made the Boyd Duckett Carrot Stix they were amazing rods but I head when E21 dropped Boyd they made the "white" rods and they had breaking problems but when they came out with the Micro series they fixed that. You won't find many people with these rods so it will be hard to find a good review. Quote
Crankenstein_MI Posted February 9, 2011 Author Posted February 9, 2011 The Duckett company is totally separate from e21. Duckett Fishing makes the white rods, not e21 Quote
bigbassctchr101 Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I have two of the white Duckett rods. I've used them since last August and really like the feel and sensitivity of them. The micro guide technology is a pretty neat concept. They claim you can feel better, and cast longer. I know you can feel really great with this rod. As far as casting, I can already cast a lil farther than I could probably set the hook lol But, it does reduce line slap, so the concept makes sense. I never used the E21 Duckett version, but from my understanding, Boyd wanted to build a better rod than them. So, I think he did a pretty good job. The price is somewhere around 149-169 usually. I think its a very decent rod to be mass produced. And, they have a good warranty on them. http://duckettfishing.com/home.php Quote
Georgia Jeff Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I hope more people chime in as I am interested in them also. I held one this weekend and they feel great. They don't seem as tip heavy and many split grip rods. Maybe that is due to the red winding checks that weigh the back of the rod down some to aid in balance. They were super light and had a cork grip which I prefer. I also picked up the new Carrot stix rods. They felt pretty comparable but the Ducketts are $50 cheaper. If you want cork grips and micro guides on a carrot you have to spend $199. Quote
MediumHeavy Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Never fished one, but when I was looking at them in the store they felt really light for the size. However, I noticed one of the micro guides was loose. Quote
The Rooster Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I'm pretty sure it was Duckett who dropped E21 instead of the other way around. ;D Quote
MediumHeavy Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 I looked at the Duckett rods again and the one with a wonky guide had a chip in the epoxy/coat on just that one guide. The dozen or so other rods I checked out were fine. They're probably the lightest rods I've ever held. I might have to pick one up at some point. The 7'3" MH was a bit lighter and better balanced than my 6'8" MXF Mojo Bass. Quote
wormycrm99 Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 I have a new 7ft mh with a new Quantum smoke reel on it. I have not been able to get out on the water with it yet but it feels amazing. I don't have any other combo that feels anything like it. Quote

I don't have any other combo that feels anything like it. That sounds like a nice combo. I am actually interested in both the rod and reel you have. Be sure to give us an update after you have had some time on the water please. Quote
Georgia Jeff Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 I know that Tim Horton is using them now. I spoke with him briefly in Macon two weeks ago at BPS. He spoke highly of them but I am sure he is sponsored by them and therefore not very partial. One of the rods on the floor was missing an insert but none of the others were. You never know what kind of abuse they take on the floor at BPS. the salesman did mention that they were selling pretty well. I want one but really don't need another rod. Quote
adclem Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 These rods look very nice, looked at them at Cabelas the other day. But when I came home and looked them up on line it doesn't give line ratings or lure weight ratings. Is there anywhere that lists them? Later, Quote
Evans Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 I've got the 7'6" extra heavy paired with a revo winch. It's probably one of the lightest setups I have because the rod is so light. However, it seems to have a really good backbone. I have only used it on about 3 outings just playing with it to see how it handles on of the High Power Herrings and I am really impressed with it. I can't wait to hook up with a fish to see how it handles. I got mine at a local tackle store that had a 30% off everything sale for $101......I fish mostly yellow rods but I just couldn't turn it down ;D Quote

Evans Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Yeah it really was hard to pass up. They had 3 left last time I checked. A 7'6" Heavy and 2 6'6" spinning rods. I think the spinning rods were only $85. I've used my xtra heavy since the last post and I still can't find anything bad to say about it. It just feels really good in my hands and handles the swimbaits I have been using on it very well. Just like one of the other guys said on here, you really can't tell much of a load on it until you use a 2-4 oz bait, but the rod is just as light as my other shorter rods. It really balances well with the winch I have on it. Quote
Josh. Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 I have three ducketts, and I plan on getting more. I have a c-rig, crankin, and spinning. LOVE them all. I also have a Kistler helium, the duckett feels like a feather compaired to the Kistler. I love them both but the ducketts are my favorite. I am very happy with this product. 8-) Quote
Skeet22 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 I spent a lot of time with Boyd Sunday as I was his marshall for the classic. We talked a bit about the e21 deal and he said they were basically trying to sell a $100 rod for $169 and he wanted no part in that. His rods sell for $159 but has the blank and components to warrant the price including the micro guides. He told me he is using the same blank that kistler uses on their z bones..I witnessed his rods hold up to a 5 fish 28lb 15oz limit.. Quote
AbuGarcia-4-Life Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 The Duckett company is totally separate from e21. Duckett Fishing makes the white rods, not e21 I know that BUT Boyd Duckett was first teamed up with e21 to make rods but then they separeated a few years ago. Quote
