Hey guys, I see that several guys up here use Powells and haven't seen anything about the Endurance series so I thought I would post my own review for those considering it.

First off, let me say these are what you would expect from Powell, same form, same handle design, etc.  On the 723 which I got the guides are a bit smaller and of course the color is different (Black, some pink and some purple ;  dont let that throw you off because it looks great and isnt overpowering).  I got this rod for flipping light texas rigs and it does that perfectly.  A sturdy backbone with an extra fast tip this rod flips down to 1/8 oz weight baby rage craws fine.  Overall I would suggest it for anyone considering Powell.

P.S. : paired it with a Quantum Smoke PT 7:0:1

From reading about the Powell Endurance rods, I noticed that in addition to the aesthetic differences and the smaller guides the rod lengths will change along with the taper of the blank though they will still be using the Maxumfiber blanks.  Did you notice any difference in sensitivity or balance with the Endurance rod compared to the older Powell series?

Same balance if not better.  Like I said, I've been throwing lightweight baits thus far and with a very light reel in the Smoke and the rod isnt overpowering or unbalanced in any way.

I talked with Keith Bryan(powell owner) on the phone a couple of weeks ago and he said the endurance was a little lighter & a little more sensitive than the max.  Since I have never handled a powell I was wondering if you could compare the sensitivity to any other popular rods.

I have a Powell Max 704C and it is more sensitive than my ABU Verita and Vendetta, Shimano Compre and Crucial (not by much), all my BPS rods, my St. Croix Premiere, and my Allstar rods.  It is about the same as my Shimano Cumera.  I LOVE the Powell lineup and will be buying many more!

Wow how does it balance? I really might consider one now. Always wanted to try one, but I've always heard they were tip-heavy.

It's all about balance for me.

The Powell's balance nicely with 7.5 - 9 oz. reels. I have an advantage on one now and it feels pretty nice. Revos and Curados balance them nicely as well.

I have an 09 revo premier on my powell max 703c...  honestly i dont know if you can get a more balanced setup than that..  i wouldnt trade my powell for anything.. except maybe 10 more!!

In my experience all I've had were Quantum Energy rods, then stepped up to Shimanos, then Powell.  Compared to those others, they aren't even close to the quality of Powell.  And I'm not sponsored or anything so this isnt a plug, but their warranty, customer service (literally the owener, Keith, will sit and talk for half an hour to make sure you get the right stick), and their quality is great.

As for balance, I would agree that a little heavier reel (premeir, energy pt) will work a little better, but I chose the smoke because i flip 60% of the time so i wanted something lighter.

I think Powell produces a great product at their price line.  I have five of the older model Powells:  683 CEF, 684 CEF, 703 MEF, 702 MLEF, and 684 CB.  I especially like the 683 and 703 models.  My other rods are St. Croix and G.Loomis with a Dobyns on the way.   I was hoping that the Endurance line would be a step up.

;D  I've had a lot of people tell me that, Dan.  When I saw your deal I had to jump on it.  I have read nothing but awesome things about the Champion Extreme series of rods.  I can't wait to get my stubby little fingers on it.

LOL... I did not intend to hijack the thread ;)

My wife fishes with a Powell Max 704C and she likes it. I am waiting to see the new Endurance rods in my local takle shop and may pick up a couple for her if they are decent. Then again she is pretty attached to her GL3 :-[
