Super User burleytog Posted February 17, 2011 Super User Posted February 17, 2011 Finally laid hands on one yesterday. Wow. Just ******* wow. Granted it was a 6'8 M spinning rod, but still. d**n d**n d**n... Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted February 17, 2011 Super User Posted February 17, 2011 Are you spoiled for life now? Is the bait monkey whispering in your ear...buy one, buy one... : Quote
JacobK Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 I don't care how nice it feels, I despise the color scheme. :-/ Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted February 17, 2011 Super User Posted February 17, 2011 I don't care how nice it feels, I despise the color scheme. :-/ Yea, I wasn't too thrilled about the color either. It looks different in person though than in pictures. Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted February 17, 2011 Super User Posted February 17, 2011 Yes, the last time I bought a new rod. I was asked what kind I needed. I said a 7 ft. brown one. ha ha just kidding guys, but seriously, if I find a rod I like, I don't care if it's polka dotted. I don't think I ever had a bass refuse to strike because he didn't like the color of my rod, or shirt, or hat, or whatever. Quote

northern basser Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 I handled one at the St. Paul sportsman show last month. Nice, real nice! Quote
jeb2 Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 I just picked up an NRX803 casting model a few days ago. It was more or less free, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Only fished one day with it so far and it was very windy. So not sure if it's better than my 2 BCR803 GLX Loomis sticks or not yet. It did seem very sensitive at times, though. Like you guys, I was not too overwhelmed by them on the 'net. But once my dealer got some in and I picked one up, I have to admit I was impressed with how light it felt. And the color is much better in person, although that does not matter to me one way or the other. It'd have to be solid pink before looks would factor into it. ;D Good luck resisting the bait monkee on this one. Quote
bait__Monkey Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 u welcome! try dat tatsu with ur new rod, me like! Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted February 17, 2011 Super User Posted February 17, 2011 u welcome!try dat tatsu with ur new rod, me like! Stoopid Monkey. Leave me alone already... Really though, I ordered two have gotten one. Waiting on the second. Got the 893, waiting on the 853. I'm debating the 802S with tax return. I think it would be a supremely good rod for 'eyes, too. Super User Sam Posted February 17, 2011 Super User Posted February 17, 2011 Read where there were some problems with the NRX series when they were released. Any updates regarding the problems and have they been remedied? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 17, 2011 Super User Posted February 17, 2011 That was resolved, and IIRC it involved reel seats on fly rods. Quote
MarauderYak Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 That was resolved, and IIRC it involved reel seats on fly rods. The first several batches of casting rods were defective as well. The foregrip would crack, and the handles weren't glued on properly. Quote
scrutch Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 I wish they made them without foregrips. Quote
plymouthrockbass Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 i wish they made them the exact same way but sold them for 200$ Quote

Super User burleytog Posted February 18, 2011 Author Super User Posted February 18, 2011 I wish they made them without foregrips. It's small enough that I think it wouldn't be as obtrusive as the foregrips on their other rods. I have yet to lay hands on an NRX casting rod, but from looking at photos, I assume the core foregrip turns. If it does that and covers the threads, it's a good design. My only complaint with my Kistlers is that the threads on the seat sometimes irritate my middle and ring fingers. Quote

Fish Chris Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 So I was thinking, "Come on, how bad can the color scheme be" ? ......so I went and took a look at them. "Oh.... Okay. That bad" ! Those look like those K-Mart Ocean Masters, or whatever generic stuff they carry.... Can't believe G-Loomis would put their name on those. Anyway, I'm just not that particular about rods. Give me a ho-hum middle of the line rod, and I'll use it for 20 years until the guides are falling off, and the cork handle is disintegrating Peace, Fish Quote

Super User burleytog Posted February 18, 2011 Author Super User Posted February 18, 2011 As for appearance of the rod, photos do not do it justice. Quote
Super User CWB Posted February 18, 2011 Super User Posted February 18, 2011 Nothing can be as ugly as these: http://tackletog.com/cal/2010/03/21/velvicks-magic-wand-the-duckett-fishing-micro-magic/ I don't care how good they are, I ain't fishing with something that looks more like a pool cue than a fishing rod. ;D Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted February 18, 2011 Super User Posted February 18, 2011 I picked one up at Cabelas when they were first released, pretty d**n impressive for sure. I could get by with the color, it's not that bad. Give it a few years and I'm sure they will improve even more on the NRX design. I was just blown away they finally made a split grip rod, that alone spoke volumes. Quote
BassThumb Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Amazing rods for sure. I was playing around with an 893 a few weeks ago, testing the sensitivity by dragging the rod tip across carpet. EASILY the most sensitive rods I've ever laid my hands on by that measure. They're so light and crisp that they feel really fragile, like they would snap like a dry wishbone on a hookset. Quote
