Managing rod length...

I'm a pretty short guy at 5'6", sorry to any guys reading this, but yes, we are short.  my question is, is a 7'6" flipping rod too big.  I've always been accustomed to using 7'0 rods, but I've heard all the positives for using longer rods for pitching and flipping.  Anybody have experience that are in my predicament?

FWIW, i'm 5'10" and have zero issues using a 7'6" rod.

I am 5'9" and I use a 7'11" flippin stick with no issues.

Your height is not a factor. I'm even shorter than you and use even longer rods.

I think its a matter of personal preference.  If youre comfortable using it, then its not an issue.  If it doesnt feel right, try something else.

I'm not tall either and prefer shorter ords for tip-down presentations like jerk baits and walk-the-dog top-waters. Other than that I regularly fish rods over 7'. If you find it personally uncomfortable to fish longer rods, by all means experiment and find what works for you.

If you are truly flipping, the 7-6 should be an advantage.  I flip with an 8'. Pitchin might be a bit different.   Borrow a 7-6 and try it.  Elevate yourself on a box or something to mimic being in the boat. If it's still an issue spit the difference and go with a 7-3.  Lots options in that length.

I'm about 5'8" and don't have a problem using a 7'6" rod - except that it is too tall for my ceiling. However, I do prefer a 6'6" over a 7' for most other uses, for some reason.

Don't feel like you NEED to use what others are using....It is a good decision to go get a longer rod, but anything that is long enough to horse em of out the thick stuff will work...If there is a rod, say 7'3" H that you feel more comfortable with, then use that....I use A LOT of different rods that aren't the "popular choice" with other, but they are perfect for my fishing style.

I flip a lot with a 6-10, and I flip with a 7-11 and a couple in between those.  It depends on the situation.  I'm only about 5-10, as a point of reference.  If it's comfortable to use a 7-0 use it.  If you are comfortable in a 7-11, use it.

Like DVT stated, the time that length comes into play for me more than any other is fishing tip down baits.

6'1" here, I tried using my 7' rod the other day to flip/pitch into some reeds. The pitching part went o.k., the flipping part kinda sucked, as I'm use to using my 7'6" or my 8 footer. The distance I wanted would have been so easy with the longer rod. I'd say with regards to which size, use what suits you..
