1.  Abu Garcia Vendetta - 6'9" MHF - $80

2.  St. Croix Mojo Bass - 7' MHF - $85

3.  Quantum KVD Signature (not Tour) - 7' MHF - $80

The St. Croix is that price because I have a coupon for Dick's, but the rod actually feels a bit tip heavy to me.  I like how light the Vendettas are, but not sold on the reel screw-down.  And I don't live close enough to a BPS to check out those KVD rods, but I'm intrigued and might trek to Harrisburg at the end of the month and could check one out at that time.  Just curious to know what folks think.  Could be tempted by other rods, too.

You can get a veritas for $80 right now at Bass Tackle Depot (20% off sale) and it crushes those three rods.

The only one out of the ones you listed that I've used is the Mojo. I have the exact model you listed. The biggest complaint I've heard about them is that they're tip heavy. In my experience this hasn't been the case and I love mine, but if you're already feeling that way from picking it up in the store you probably won't be happy with it in the long run.

Vendetta. Its fantastic.

Not to confuse the issue more - but Abu is offering rebates on a lot of their product right now. The Veritas would cost $74.99 after the rebate. Thats a steal.

If you can get a Veritas for this price............GO FOR IT!!!

Before you decide the Mojo's are tip heavy, mount a reel on one, AND have the store remove

(if they will) that anti-theft plastic thingy that many place on the blank or through a guide. IMHO most rods w/split grips feel tip heavy right of the rack, it's no indication of how they will feel in use, unless you rig one up. I have held Vendetta's and Mojo's side by side in comparable lenghts/powers/actions, in almost every case the Mojo was the lighter rod, and you want to talk about tip heavy..........reel or no reel mounted, plastic thingy or no plastic thingy, the Vendettas take the cake in this area, and that reel seat turns me off as well. I 'm not saying they are bad rods, I dont' own one, I 'm just telling you WHY I don't own one.

I did have them take off the alarm/protection tags so I could tell and I still thought it felt heavier than the Vendetta, personally.  I've got the MBC68MXF and like it a lot, they're definitely well made rods and St. Croix seems like a good company.

That Kistler Carbon Steel rod is intriguing, but the pics on their site don't show the rod with the correct handle, plus they're discontinued?

They're not discontinued. They just changed the handle and added micro guides since last year. The handles are now the same as the Helium LTA except with regular cork instead of the marbled cork. I don't know why they haven't updated the pictures. I picked one up because I wanted to try out the micro guides without spending a fortune. It has a good feel and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a rod in the $80 price range.

At that price go for a Shimano Compre at Tackle Warehouse. They are on special right now. 20$ off

DING DING DING DING!!! :(

You really can't go wrong with a Shimano rod, whether it is the Compre or a Clarus.  I own a number of the Clarus rods (5 or 6) and I can honestly say that I enjoy fishing these rods as much as some of my Powell's or even my Cumara's.  As for your length, I know from personal experience that Clarus makes a 7' MH w/ an extra fast tip.  This rod is AMAZING action, and it is extremely versitle-- it can be used for nearly anything, from cranking bigger cranks to flipping jigs or worms.  And with the $10 off through TW, you cant go wrong! 8-)

Oh ya, did I mention Shimano's warranty?  Bar none, one of the best and easiest companies to swap out broken rods with.  IMO

unfortunately i missed out on the BTD sale... to late haha.  However a quick google search can net you a $20 off a $100 purchase at gander mountain!!!  Veritas if you are leaning that way are 99.99 so you will  have to find something for about $1 to get the 20 off!
