collegefishing12 Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Hey all, I am interested in finding someone (someplace) that does good work cleaning/oiling reels. I know that there are a number of places out there that advertise their services, but does anyone know a place, from personal experience, word of mouth, etc., that has a good reputation of this? I am in Ohio, and I am looking primarily for cleaning/oiling of all my casting reels. Thanks in advance. Quote
kiko13 Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Call Phil at Rod & Reel Repair. 3612 Lee Highway Arlington, VA 22207-3719 (703) 528-3022 You can ship him the reels and he'll get them turned around quickly. He is as fair as they come. Ernie Quote
collegefishing12 Posted February 5, 2011 Author Posted February 5, 2011 Just as a heads up before I start calling, what is an average price that I can expect to pay? I have roughly 10 or so casting reels and 3-4 spinning reels in need of a good clean and lube. Thanks again! Quote

Super User Grey Wolf Posted February 5, 2011 Super User Posted February 5, 2011 That will cost between 200-300.00 to have all those reels cleaned and shipped. What part of Ohio are you located. Quote

Frank_Omega Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Ultrasonic Cleaners have different strengths. If you purchase a unit that is made out of plastic, the plastic itself absorbs the ultrasonic power which reduces cleaning power. The better units are made of all stainless steel including the basket that holds your part. If removing lettering or paint off of the reels is a concern, then lower bath temperatures are recommended. The other factor in all of this is the cleaning agent you use. Some cleaning agents are a lot more aggressive then others. You should use alkaline based soaps. Try using a lower bath temperature along with a small amount of soap, maybe a 20-1 dilation ratio to start. One more thing that will help you, Keep an eye on how long you are cleaning for. The longer you are in the bath, the more chance you have of removing something that you don't want to. Hope that helps! Frank [edit]Edited due to violation of our FAQ's[/edit] Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 The cost of a reel service for forum members is $16.20 ($18-10%). Turn around varies with season but nothing sits around and jobs witha deadline can be scheduled ahead of time. Thanks for the votes of confidence! Mike Quote
