set_the_hook Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 does anybody here use a high vis braid and just add a leader? Quote
Dan-K Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 I am trying the trilene fused in yellow now. I have not fished it yet, but I have it spooled up on my DX702SF for drop shooting with a 6# flouro leader. We shall see if I like it... Quote
BassThumb Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Yes, a lot of people do that, including myself. I use Berkley Fireline Tracer braid on my flipping/pitching rods. I bought a bunch of it for $5 a spool and I like it. Quote
ProCraft Joe Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 I've been using yellow Power pro for a few years now. You see the line move before you ever feel the bite. Quote
Stasher1 Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Yellow Power Pro with a leader for just about every technique. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted February 6, 2011 Super User Posted February 6, 2011 I use the Gold Stren Superbaid, Daiwa Samurai in yellow, Daiwa Saltiga in multi-color, and the Fireline Tracer Braid. Sometimes I use a fluorocarbon leader and sometimes I don't. The fish don't care either way. Quote
MNGeorge Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Switched to all yellow braid a few years back because I could no longer see the green stuff. I use a fluoro leader with everything except my hollow body frog rig. Happy with the switch and would never consider not using a highly visible braid. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted February 6, 2011 Super User Posted February 6, 2011 forget the flouro and color the last 6 feet black with a permanent marker. Quote
northern basser Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 i use hivis yellow PP on all my reels now. most of the lakes around me in minnesota get green with algae etc. so its extremely tough to see the moss green braid for line watching.what i do now is take a green sharpie and color about 7ft or so of the line. this works dandy for me in my green waters. the power pro is a bit waxy when new so the dye doesn't adhere the best at first. but once the line is used a bit it will hold the color just fine. I fished w/ frogginstein all last summer and he enlightened me on this. I was new to PP and had all moss green on my reels. Line watching became very hard. I already have some yellow spooled on some of my reels ready to go for this season. Quote
RandySBreth Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 I use the high-vis braid/leader thing most of the time. I would never want to go back to any other set-up for suspending jerkbaits. Quote
Crankhead Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Question about power pro...I fish 90% during the summer from 7pm until around 4am...no jet skis/water skiers & very few boats. The last few years I've only used 15lb green pp. I've thought about trying the yellow because it would be much easier to see at night. All of you that do use yellow pp...if you fished a clear water lake strictly during the night...in your opinion is there any reason to still use a leader? Quote
TrippyJai Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 I would like to know if yellow braid is okay to fish without colouring it with a sharpie or using a leader. I bought a spool and haven't used it yet. Quote

Crankhead Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 As I posted earlier...I fish a clear water lake. But if I wanted to fish during the day and try using the yellow power pro...couldn't I just color like 1-2 ft with a marker instead of using a leader? Quote
OHIO Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 As I posted earlier...I fish a clear water lake. But if I wanted to fish during the day and try using the yellow power pro...couldn't I just color like 1-2 ft with a marker instead of using a leader? Yes you could do that. I usually do the first four feet or so though, but I don't know if it makes a difference. I use yellow braid on my catfish rig without a leader or color and they don't seem to mind. Bass seem to hit it a lot too. I think the color thing is just a confidence booster. I wouldn't invest much thought in to it. Quote
Crankhead Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 last question...if I want switch to yellow power pro for fishing a clear water lake during the day but don't use a leader...how much do all of you think it will affect my catch rate? I've used green power pro & it doesn't seem to make a difference. Do you think using a leader is mostly a confidence thing for anglers? Quote
I.rar Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 ive always wanted to try some high vis braid but always grabbed the green color first. im also curious to know how many use a yellow or red line in clear water. some water i fish can be like glass on a calm day. Quote
21farms Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 i like yellow braid. in stained water or when fishing for a reaction bite, i don't use a leader...just remember, yellow is a common color in nature as well. i'm not a huge fan of the black sharpie trick because it seems to make the line stand out even more. i'd add a fluoro leader in clear water, when i want the sinking properties of fluoro or when fishing over rocks (which cuts braid like a hot knife through butter). i have found, however, that 30# yellow power isn't that visible for my line-watching because it is so thin.
