I've had the reel for over a year but have only used it a couple times.  It makes a "click" or "tick" sound right when the spool reaches the top and bottom of it's movement during a retrieve.  Even with no load on the reel, it's doing it.  I'm guessing it has something to do with the oscillation pawl, but what exactly, I'm not sure.  Any ideas?

That's really nice of you to offer.  I'll take you up on that if I can't figure it out.  Has anyone experienced anything like this on any type of spinning reel, or is there some common components that may cause this type of behavior?

I have, with most Pfluegers, and with ALL Shakespeare reels that share the same design. I've seen it DOZENS of times on them. Never figured out what it was, but I noticed it each and every time right as the spool bottomed out on it's oscillation, and also at the top of it as well when having a Shakespeare in my hands. Seems they do it even more, and do it louder than the Pfluegers do. It's usually 3 little ticks and then silence until the spool reaches the end of it's travel the opposite way where it does it again. Doesn't seem to affect the reel at all, it's just a characteristic of them. I have 2 Pfluegers.  The President does it sometimes, but the Trion does not. My nephew bought a Shakespeare Dimension from Walmart which shares the identical design to the Pfluegers, and his reel makes this noise all the time.  Doesn't hurt it in the least though.

I'm glad somebody else finally noticed this. Every time I pointed it out to anyone here locally they just acted like they couldn't notice the same thing, like I was imagining it.

Never had a President do this to me before but it doesn't sound like it's too terrible. I have been thinking about getting one of the new Supreme XT's, maybe I'll have to look elsewhere now. Let us know when you figure it out.

I own 5 floogs and 1 shakespere, all perfect never a problem.  1 supreme has been used in saltwater well over a year for larger fish, still perfect.
