catchnm Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I spooled up a Citica 200E with this line a while back and still haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Plan on it being for jigs and tex-rigs mainly. My first braid experience was with the original Spiderwire when it first came out back in the late '80s. Didn't much care for it nor could I justify the high price vs. the real "need" for it at that time. I know there's been much technological refining to braided line since then. I've read that the smaller diameter braid is not recommended for baitcasters because of it cutting into itself so much. The Fireline Braid is supposed to be a round and not flat line which they say will all but eliminate that problem. I have it spooled up really tight to the spool with mono backing. Probably have about 50-60 yards on. Anyone want to offer any insight into this? Quote
WanderLust Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I have good luck with 30# Fireline on my Curado. It casted great and wasn't as stiff as say Suffix. I since switched to Daiwa Samurai 40#. Quote
baluga Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 At least 5 of my baitcaster are spooled with 20# Sufix performance braid at 6# mono diameter. I've been using them for more than two year, never had a problem with small diameter braid cutting into itself on baitcaster. Spiderwire is flat and soft and digs into the spool when putting much tension during the fight, this results to issues like bird nest and snapping the line on the cast. Fireline Crystal is good, the only thing I don't like with it the the line fraying on the first 10 ft after use for several months. Daiwa Samurai is smooth and soft, perfect for casting and retrieving, the only downside is it breaks to easy. I've broke a 20# rating with my finger nails while picking the birds nest. At 20# rating I don't expect it to break using my finger nail even if they say it's too thin, it still rated at 20#s. Quote
MMan16 Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I have a Revo stx spooled with 50lb fireline braid. I used it all last year with no problems. I mainly use it for flippin into heavy slop, and for frogs. The Fireline does seem to be round and not flat and in my experience for the year I used it it didn't flatten with use. Quote
rubba bubba Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I have Fireline 30# on several of my reels and think very highly of it. It dug in sometimes on 1 reel but not the others (each reel is a different type/brand) so I can only assume I spooled that 1 a little too loosey-goosey. Quote
