I have some CX Copoly ordered and plan on trying it on some spinning reels in 8lb, heard great things about the manageability on spinning reels.  I also saw a couple of posts on here about breakoffs which concerns me a little.  I have had that issue with Flouro in the past with the lighter lines while using a Palomar knot.  Just wanted to see if that was the case with guys who are breaking off on the lighter CX.  Once I went to a Clinch or Trilene knot on my lighter flouro (this was recommended by Stacey King and Ron Shuffield at a BPS seminar) the breakoff issue dissapered but I don't like the way flouro (and most mono) acts on spinning reels so I'm looking at CX.

The other question is this, I plan on doing some Dropshotting with this line and I usually use a Palomar knot, has anyone fished a DS with a Clinch knot?  Or a loop knot?  Just looking for ways to avoid the breakoff issue if it is being caused by the Palomar.

I use P-Line CX Prem on 80% of my Baitcasters and almost never have any issues and I use a polmar knot.

I check the line often especially near the lure and retie often.

Steezy, are you using light line?  I heard the problem was with the lower test line, like 6 & 8 lb.  That is where I was having my problems with the Palomar on straight Flouro line also, I think it cuts through itself.

BEST LINE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    It has all the strenght and  almost as much sensitivity as the 100% Fluorocarbon w/out breaking the bank.  I've used every lb test rating and have yet to have a break off on a hook set but this may have more to due w/ the way I carefully balance/match my rod and reel combos.  Remember to always run your fingers along the line every now and than to make sure it isn't nicked somewhere 4 feet or more up the line.  I also use nothing but a Palamor knot even with 100% Flouro. I've found it helps to wet the line before tightening up the knot. Never had a problem fishing 6lb CX w/ a Palamor knot. To me it takes too long to tie anything else.

No matter the type of line, a palomar requires lubrication.  Use plenty of spit before cinching the knot and cinch via the tag end rather than the main line.

CX is fluoro coated and will burn if you cinch the knot using the main line.

Thanks guys, I'm feelin' better.  Everything I've heard about this line sounds like exactly what I want but there were just a couple of mentions of break offs that had me wondering, can't wait to try it.

I think your worry about the palomar failing is not going to be an issue. It is one of the simplest knots and very strong. I use it for drop shotting myself and have never ever lost a fish because of the palomar.

Other than having memory up the ying yang (which doesn't bother me) it is a solid line.

Geez...

I'll dig two new spools out of the trash and give

them to you next time we get together.

Seriously, the worst line I have ever tried.

TripleFish was a close second and Vanish

another contender.

Thanks IB.  I know how to tie a Palomar, saliva, whole deal, I agree it's about the quickest/easiest one to tie.  I just went through a period of several years at one time where I broke off dozens of big fish using it on light Flouro - never a problem on heavier Flouro or Mono with it, basically thinking I was just having a run of bad luck.  Then I go to a seminar at BPS and 3 pros, Ron Shuffield, Stacey King and Pete Ponds are all sitting around and the subject comes up of Palomars and light Flouro being a bad combo and they all agreed on it 100% - the line cuts itself sometimes.  I changed my knot back to the Clinch and I don't think I ever broke off another fish on Flouro again after that but I still don't use it on spinning tackle because of the memory issues.  I've been using mono on my spinning gear and liking it but I'm hoping to get a little bit better managability and casting distance w/ the copoly.

Dang Kent, tell me how you really feel dude ;)  I agree w/ you about Vanish.  The same seminar w/ the guys I named above, 2 of the 3 were sponsored by Berkley at the time, they all still trashed Vanish pretty hard, lol.

What was your issue w/ the CX?  I've been using 6lb Pline cxx for a while (along w/ my el cheapo BPS excel mono) and really like it, just interested in the cx for a little upgrade on line properties and I like the low diameters, their 8lb is about .92 I think.  Anyway, check your trash can and holler at me.... ;D

I put it in the recycle bin Saturday. It's still in the

box, new a couple of weeks ago. Two 300 yard

spools of #6, brand spanking new! Yours for free.

One probably has 225 yards of new line. I partially

spooled a spinning reel and made two casts before

trashing the line. Partially spooled a baitcaster from

a different new spool for one cast and trashed the

new line. So, 200 yards+ times two, brand new,

for you!

-Kent

p.s. I didn't like the line very much.    ;)

Jeez, extremely expensive combos yet you use CX? I thought you'd have Tatsu or something on every reel!

I use 10 and 12lb CX on my spinning rods and 15 CX on all 12 of my linecounter combos (i'm a walleye guy too) and i absolutely love it.  Never any issues at all.  Pretty strong, very manageable, and just and all around great line.  And as far as road warrior, i would just pretend you never read his post and go out and get some! ;D

Vanish was the first flouro line I tried and I didn't use another one for a while after that. Worst line ever. I still have some that I will use for leaders occasionally.

I've never had any issues with P-Line CX Prem, I use 12# and 14# on my Steez baitcasters.

Well, try the Tatsu #15 and you won't be fishing CX any longer.

Wow, I thought my Diawa Samurai Braid was expensive.

The problem with the good stuff is, it costs more !

Yeah, it's too expensive. I bought one spool

on a whim, but I can't use it on a regular basis.

Even with backing, 200 yards is two respools and

that is all you get. When you hang-up you lose

just as much Tatsu as any other line.

So, for those that don't care about the price, this

is the finest line I have ever used. For the rest of

us, it's just too darn expensive.

;)
