Loomis24 Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 I have never used braid but bought some over the winter cause it was on sale. Thought I might give it a try. Was wondering how many people out there actually use braid and is it a must have in your tackle??? Quote
Super User Raul Posted January 29, 2011 Super User Posted January 29, 2011 Is Braid a must????? No. Quote
BassThumb Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Braid is only a must for frog fishing in heavy weeds. Many people, myself included, use braid for bottom contact baits like jigs and worms. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 29, 2011 Super User Posted January 29, 2011 Is Braid a must????? It is for me ! Quote
Chaz Hickcox Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Is Braid a must?????It is for me ! X2 I use braid for all kinds of things. Bottom contact, rip baits, grass, and my most used application is for spinnerbaits in heavy wooded cover. Better feel and with the strength of the braid I can get their heads pointed towards me quicker. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 29, 2011 Super User Posted January 29, 2011 Braid is great for some things, and flat sucks for others. Quote
MMan16 Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Braid is great for some things, and flat sucks for others. Agreed. I always have at least one rod with it tied on. And its usually my heavy cover/frog rod. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted January 29, 2011 Super User Posted January 29, 2011 Is Braid a must? No. I do use it for most applications though. Quote
MNGeorge Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 For all intents and purposes, braid is all I fished with last year. I might go back to mono on my soft jerk bait rig, but that would likely be the only rig I'd consider not using braid on. Quote

Texasfishingtips Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Not a MUST. But I use it for frogs and jigs. Clancy W Quote
Fat-G Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 It is for me. I fish ponds from the bank 90% of the time, and really only throw jigs, plastics, frogs, and swimbaits. I use braid on all my rods. A lot of people worry abot it "scaring" the fish, I personally couldn't care less. If a fish is gonna bite, it'll bite. I'm not fishing for money, and I've caught enough big fish without a leader to erase any doubt in my head. On the other hand if I was fishing on a big lake and "had" to throw say a spinnerbait or (GASP!) a crank, I would throw copoly. Quote
Super User Alpster Posted January 30, 2011 Super User Posted January 30, 2011 A Must?? No, but I buy it by the pound. 8-) Ronnie Quote

0119 Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 It aint a must for topwater fishing. Not even a must for frog fishing. I throw frogs successfully with 25lb mono on a Curado 300. Its personal preference. I use it on spinning gear but for nothing else. Too many disadvantages for me, not for most. But do and use what you want. Quote
Hot Rod Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Braid is great for some things, and flat sucks for others. X2 I like it in and around heavy veg. But elsewhere I prefer FC mostly Quote
RandySBreth Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Braid (and fused lines) are not a 'must". But you could only use a cane pole if you want, too. ;D Quote

Was wondering how many people out there actually use braid and is it a must have in your tackle??? It depends , what kind did you buy ? I bought some Stren Microfuse. 30lb 125 yrds for $4. I couldn't pass up the offer. If that's not worth a hoot then I can always buy some good braid, I just wanted to know if it(braid) was necessary or not Quote
Texasfishingtips Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 I also use braid on my dock rod which doubles as a shakey head rod, I use 20lb spider wire on that combo. I have a cabelas MH rod with a pinnicale reel that has 30lb spider wire that I use as one of my everything rods. For my flipping/frog rod I got 65lb power pro on a quantum burst. Clancy W Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted January 30, 2011 Super User Posted January 30, 2011 My underspins, spincasts, spinning, baitcasters and catfish reels all braid. Quote

Was wondering how many people out there actually use braid and is it a must have in your tackle??? It is for me. I use it for absolutely everything. When I need to,I tie a copoly leader on it,but thats it. Other than that,it's straight braid. Quote
jdw174 Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 This past year I put braid on all 3 of my spinning rods with a copoly leader and really like it for those applications. I also use it on my c-rig setup. Other than that, it's plain copoly all the way. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted January 30, 2011 Super User Posted January 30, 2011 braid all the way. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted January 30, 2011 Global Moderator Posted January 30, 2011 Braid on my spinning gear [which is all I use] with a Floro leader for everything but cranks which I use co poly on. I have will have Floro or braid on my only baitcaster that I'm learning to use that will be on my fipping stick when I get it, [haven't decieded yet what to get] I got pretty good pitching a spinning rod but I need the mussel.
