Boss Hogg Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 my question is who buys line in bulk?. is it cheaper buying in bulk if you own 10 ? Right now I own 3 baitcasters so would it be cheaper to buy in bulk or no? I would like to find out. Quote
Texasfishingtips Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 If you use the same line on all of them then yes. Even if you don't, it will save you in the long run. Clancy W Quote
Boss Hogg Posted February 2, 2011 Author Posted February 2, 2011 Thanks for the tip I'm just trying to figure out what the best way would be. So far I tot three baitcasters. I'm planing on getting more down the road. But I guess it would be cheaper not to buy in bulk. Quote
Carrington Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 i only buy bulk braid since it doesnt go bad, floro and mono can go bad over time. Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted February 2, 2011 Super User Posted February 2, 2011 I read just recently, that if you keep line out of sunlight it should store just fine and last for years. I buy in bulk, keep mine in a closet, and have never had a problem. Quote
Super User bassfisherjk Posted February 2, 2011 Super User Posted February 2, 2011 I buy mono in bulk.Keep it out of sunlight and at a even temp. it should last awhile. Quote
jdw174 Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 I use copoly line from spools that I keep in the closet of my den......and some of them have been in there for almost TWENTY YEARS . It retains it's strength, abraision resistance, and in all those years I have never, ever lost a fish due to line failure. Take it for what it's worth....... Quote
JigMe Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 I order some bulk items with the guys at work, we usually get different kinds of fishing lines and it does save us a ton of money. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted February 2, 2011 Super User Posted February 2, 2011 I agree - with proper storage, the line should be good for a long time. I just bought over 13,000 yards of Yo-Zuri - enough to last me 2 or 3 years I would think, and have no concerns about it at all. So, if you see a good deal on a bulk spool of a line that you intend to use quite a bit - go for it ! Quote
Super User Alpster Posted February 2, 2011 Super User Posted February 2, 2011 Line by the pound is the only way to fly. Ronnie Quote
Super User Raul Posted February 2, 2011 Super User Posted February 2, 2011 Line won 't go bad if you store it properly, I purchase line in bulk and some spools are 8-10 years old. Quote
Intrepid Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 if youre keeping line around for 8 to 10 to 20 years then it makes me wonder if it was really necessary to buy it in bulk. so was it really necessary? my impression is(and i could be wrong) that if youre keeping line that long then you dont use it enough to justify buying it in bulk... Super User J Francho Posted February 2, 2011 Super User Posted February 2, 2011 Line won 't go bad if you store it properly, I purchase line in bulk and some spools are 8-10 years old. LOL, no price is good enough to buy 10 years worth of line. Quote
Super User flechero Posted February 2, 2011 Super User Posted February 2, 2011 Even the 1000yd spools save a lot... and it doesn't take long to eat those up. I go through 2-3 a year on average. (which is way down since my unmarried days. ...lol) Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted February 3, 2011 Super User Posted February 3, 2011 I buy bulk spools just because I don't like to run out. Over time it saves money too. Quote

There's something about looking at a 1lb spool of line that says 8,000 yards (4.5 miles) on the label that just gives me a sense of..........security! ;D Quote
