Hey guys, just stewing here in the cold weather in Missouri - itching to get out there.

Anyway, I have been considering having a custom rod built for quite some time. Just seems like I can never find exactly what I want out there. Anyway, any suggestions on a quality custom rod builder? Preferably somebody in Missouri or Kansas - but, not necessary if its real quality.

Thanks guys.

I would have to agree that a custom rod is a great investment. I am very pleased with my experience working with Mike at Delaware Valley Tackle. http://www.delawarevalleytackle.com/

He's not local for you; however, he is a site sponsor and regular contributor. Take your time to decide what you want and be specific. Mike took the time to help answer all my questions and offer suggestions. The quality and cost of my custom rod from DVT are just two of the bonuses of my decision to go with Mike.

Now is a great time to get a rod. Don't do like I did and get it in the fall and have to wait pretty much all winter to get some good use out of it. I'm chomping at the bit for warm weather.

Whets

I haven't had any experience with him, but plan on having a build done at some point.  I have been having 1 custom rod done every off season for the past few years.  I found him after I had already ordered the current one I am having sone.

Ray is a great guy. I drop off my reels to him every winter and he's very reasonable. I've never had him build a rod - nor do I know the costs. His stories/experiences are great. He used Loomis blanks (and knows/fished with Loomis himself), but I don't think he can get them anymore since Shimano bought them out. Not sure though.

Thanks for the suggestions thus far guys.

Anybody know anything about Otterods?  I've read some positive comments about them on Tackle Tour's forum.

Sure have... Matt at Otterods is great to work with, and makes awesome fishing tools.

I hope Matt can build a rod for you, I guarantee you will love it as much as I love mine.

Talked to Matt.  I'm gonna have to save up a little more $ to get exactly what I want, but that's no big deal.

From everything he said, and the comments of others on this and other forums - it'll be worth the wait and the extra cash.
