Hello all, this is Rick Clunn.  The reason I am using W&M equipment is because the yellow colors help to channel the energy of the sun.  The sun gives us light and that light gives us vision.  We must create an inner vision so that we can become one with the bass.  The black colors channel the energy of the earth.  Much like the earth gives the water its nutrients, the fish feed our stomach and soul.  This is why I am now representing W&M. :D

Does that mean he will no longer be on the Bass Pros?

I actually really like my 8ft Tessera flippin stick..  Maybe it is because the yellow and black matched my Pittsburgh teams.. but I havent had a problem with it yet.. and with RC and Skeet workin together, they have a chance of making some really great stuff... eventually..

WooHoo!  Old Yeller rides again!  I have an Old Yeller W&M fly rod that belonged to my grandfather, probably 50 years old at least and they ain't changed a thing since then.  Back then it sure as heck was better than bamboo or steel!  Git yerself one, see what's it's like to catch bass the old fashioned way!

He is the best ever but he is also a little cooky at times.

I'm surprised that people still say and believe this, and that it is even debatable.

X2, I've got 3 of them and adding the flipping stick is not far away. Just gunna buy some costas first. I love all the rods that I own. The reels are a joke IMO.

Ever think maybe BPS just didn't have the money he wanted to remain with the company?

Because the simplest explanation isn't nearly as much fun.

He isnt on this seasons episode.  Basically Stacey King took over his segment.

His face is still listed as on their prostaff on the inside cover of the spring angler catalog that was just put on the shelf at BAM.

Well, if he is no longer with BPS. Then I say those BPS exclusive LuckyCraft RC series baits need to be discounted to say $5.00 a piece, especially since they don't catch fish.... :D

If a company took my signature rods/reels and made them a hideous purple color, I'd be looking for a new sponsor too.  ;D

Or he wasn't actually selling anything for them, so they dropped him. And since people aren't lining up to sponsor him, he took what he can get....

Probably more likely. When was the last time you heard/read about anyone using one of his rods? I know there are some folks here using his reels, but from what I've seen, most of those folks bought them on clearance...not because they really liked the reel.

Was on their website earlier this AM.  They're all marked down to around $10.

Pros and guys on the shows change sponsors all the time. Al Lindner and the guys on angling edge have been with Shimano for years but are now sponsored by Quantum and guess its just part of the business.

Shimano dropped lots of people.

And those guys were with Quantum for longer than Shimano. Back in the In-Fisherman days.

Different people have been doing the Bass 101 segment.

While it may not be 100% honest, it's sure an accepted practice. How much advertising is 100% honest? Very little that I see.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that many of the rods and reels are NOT what you buy off the shelf. But the masses will never see or notice a difference. Many of the reels are the same basic reels, but upgraded and tuned... rods vary from OE parts built by a master builder to complete customs with decals and color schemes that match the factory rods.

This is just one reason I would never buy equipment based on a spokesman or pro user.

sorry to stray off topic.

Fletchero I know for a fact that in the past KVD would have custom rods labeled with whoever was his rod sponsor. That said I'm confident that the Quantum rods & reels he's now using are likely the genuine article.

That said I'm a KVD fan but I still use Shimano reels and mostly Loomis rods.  8-)

This endorsement thing is all about money and marketing. The big corps. have the largest budgets so they can pay the most for Pro's services. Therefore they can get the pick of whom they want to represent them. It has a lot to do with the personality and marketability of the particular Pro.

I've caught bass on everything from the cheapest cane pole to the most expensive custom rods and reels. What really matters most is where, when, how, and who is doing the fishing.
