Loomis24 Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 I'm looking to purchase a nice spinning reel to pair with my veritas spinning rod. Like to keep it under $100 so I can buy some verdicts . It would be nice to have a lighter reel than what i have now(Quantum tenacity). I'm looking to put about 8 pound flouro on there. Thanks for your help. Quote
TRYTOFISH Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 plflueger president. best $60 reel that compares to most $100 - $125 reels. had six fore about8-10 years. only had a problem with one. smooth and sensitive. Quote
central.PA.bass Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 i'm lookin forward to the responses because I am also pondering a new spinning setup.. Quote
VolFan Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 There's quite a few decent spinning reels under $100. I have six Shimano Saharas in varying weigths. Never had a problem with any. Quote
R520dvx Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Hard to beat the Shimano Sahara ... I have 2 and we sell a ton of them in the store. Quote
WanderLust Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Look for a deal in the flea market. You can probably get a steal on a higher end reel. Pflueger President or Supreme Magnesium maybe a good choice. I have an older President and a newer Arbor. Both have performed great for the money. I think the knock on Pflueger is the maintenance but I've never had issues. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted January 23, 2011 Super User Posted January 23, 2011 Pflueger Supreme 8030MG - 7.4oz - $100 - comes with a spare aluminum spool Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted January 23, 2011 Super User Posted January 23, 2011 I like the Daiwa Exceler. Quote

Flippin & Pitchin Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Pflueger President hands down. Quote
BassThumb Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 I've never had good luck with Pinnacle, but that Supreme looks like a winner. My pick is Shimano Saros. I found one yesterday from a retailer for $109 while bargain hunting online for a Stradic CI4. I think these are as good as the mid-2000s white Stradics that were around $130-150. Quote

ndtitanfan Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 I have a Sahara, but my favorite spinning reel under $100 is the Cabela's Tournament ZX, I am planning on making all my reel on my all spinning set-ups this year. Super Smooth, and if you catch the sales right you can get them for $39.99. I believe I read that this is very comparable to the Daiwa Exceler. When they are on sale, I do not think they can be beat for the money. Quote
central.PA.bass Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 not to hijack or anything as I am interested in good spinning reels for good prices... Anyone have any experience with the Abu Garcia Soron SX? Or even the Cardinal 500ALBi? I'm a Revo guy and I hate to shy away from Abu Garcia.. especially if they make a good spinning reel.. Quote
I.rar Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 ive wondered about the BPS pro Q and JM spinning reels with the mag spool. they are under $100 and have an all aluminum construction , iirc. yet i dont recall ever seeing someone comment on them. Quote

ChiCityBasser Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 I have the Shimano Sahara and I'm not impressed with it at all. The Daiwa Exceler is a better choice for me and less expensive. You can find them on ebay in all three speeds for usually less than $70. Quote
Loomis24 Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 Looks like the Plueger Supreme is probably what I'm gonna get. Still listening to suggestions. Quote
Stinkus Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Pflueger President. Had 2 6740x's. Sold one. Kept one for the evil senkos. Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted January 25, 2011 Super User Posted January 25, 2011 Geez.... Recently bought a Symetre 500FJ around $100 for an ultra lite. You can find the 2500FJ for about the same price. Nothin' to talk about! Strong, smooth, silent and reliant. Probably not a Flooger... : Quote
