Super User bilgerat Posted January 26, 2011 Super User Posted January 26, 2011 .. does Bass Pro Shops ship rods in flimsy triangular cardboard packages ?http://www.packagingmart.com/Images/ProductImages/480_xl.jpg I just received my new Fenwick http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1295717353 and in spite of the packaging, it arrived intact. It's not heavy cardboard by any stretch of the imagination. It's got printing on it that indicates that it was packaged at Fenwick. BPS probably received it and put a shipping label on it when my order was processed. I don't really have a gripe, it just surprise me. The rod is a two piece. It was in a sealed plastic pack inside the box, that was it. First rod I've had sent to me that wasn't in a heavy cardboard tube. Quote
Stasher1 Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 I've had fly rods shipped to me in those triangular boxes, but they were also in divided rod socks, inside of a hard tube. As long as they're willing to insure it, I wouldn't worry about it. Quote
I.rar Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 LOL. i was waiting to see a comment on how they shipped em. i thought they sent me someone else order when i saw that odd box. mine came without a scratch though... im looking forward to your review... Quote

Uhhhh....unfortunately that may be a while. 8" of snow coming in tonight. Lakes have been frozen over forever. Nothing like ordering fishing toys in the dead of winter and having to stare at them Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted January 26, 2011 Super User Posted January 26, 2011 That's new to me. I've ordered a LOT of rods from BPS and they all have come in the heavy cardboard tubes - I've got an attic full of them... ;D With the heavy tubes, I wonder if they eat some of the shipping cost even with the regular shipping charge plus $6.00 for rods over 6' ? Similar topic - I ordered a rod today from Amazon of all places - there you get free shipping (for Amazon-stocked products) on orders over $25...even on 6'6" 1-pc rods ! Quote

Super User bilgerat Posted January 27, 2011 Author Super User Posted January 27, 2011 I put a coat of U-40 on the cork tonight. I have two more reels to strip, clean and lube. The tacklebags are stocked up. I'm running out of stuff to do... Quote
bass or bass ? Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 I received a rod from BPS @ 6 weeks ago, and it came in a very rigid tube. A fly rod I got from them @ 6 months ago also came in a thick rigid tube. Quote

kLuo Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 I've ordered 2 rods from BPS, and both times, the cheap tube broke during shipment. The first time, my rod was broken into 3 pieces. BPS replaced it, but it was still a hassle to mail the broken one back. The second time, the tube broke but my rod was still intact. But now I'm afraid the rod is damaged and I just can't see it yet. *** ships rods in heavy duty tubes. Those are so much better than the crappy ones BPS ships them in. Quote
dave Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 I received one from Castaway in the triangular box. It did have a seven foot 1x3 piece of wood for support. The rod was attached to the wood, then the wood was attached to one side of the triangle. Not problem. Quote
Uncle Leo Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 It was probably shipped straight from Fenwick. My partner had a rod replaced due to breakage from Fenwick and that was the type tube they used. It also came in one piece. Quote
