Blue Streak Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 I have received no less than 10 new abu's from pure fishing over the last several years, not only replaced but paid the shipping back as well. Just this past year I dropped a soron in the surf, totally filled with sand, sent in for cleaning and go a new reel no charge. I had an older 704 lx, was feeling a bit of gear grind, asked for an upgrade and was willing to pay difference, new upgraded stx at no charge. I was having a spool filling problem on a spare spool on a soron 60, Pure fishing was so apologetic that they offered to send me free of charge a new Revo premier, I turned them down as the Revo is too small and I didn't want to take too much advantage. I don't know how any company can beat there service, the Big S, is pale in comparison. I'm glad Pure Fishing has made you happy, but that's no reason to take a jab at "Big S". Shimano has provided me with outstanding customer service on the rare occasion it's needed. If you have had to replace 10 Abu Garcia reels in the past few years, I would consider another brand. I haven't had to ask for a replacemnt from Shimano... ever. : On the other hand I have been using ABU reels since the early 60's and have never had to ask for a replacement EVER!! I have also never had a serious repair issue with any of their reels EVER. Any time I have needed parts or had a problem their customer service took care of any issue professionally and quickly ALWAYS. I use Shimano also and cannot say the same thing about their customer service. At times they act like they don't know anything about the problem and it must be an isolated situation but did not offer a solution. Although they build good reels their customer service is not at the same level as most good reel companies. Big room for improvement there. Quote
Texasfishingtips Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Why are 90% of yall dissing shimanos? I have a citica, caenen, and a sahara. Adding a curado to my arseonal also. Love every single one of these reels. Cast great, smooth, lightweight, strong, durable. Haven't had a issue with one yet and dont think I will. I've fished with some people who use the OLD curados and they work jsut fine. Clancy W Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 23, 2011 Super User Posted January 23, 2011 Actually my mom bought a new Toyota and has to get the oil changed at the dealer or the warranty is off. Just sayin'. ;D That is illegal in the USA. Check out the Magnuson-Ross Act. As long as she can prove she had the oil changes done with an oil that meets Toyota specs, they can not deny the warranty. Unless she signed up for one of those "Free tires for life" things that some dealers offer. Many require that all service be done at the dealership in order to qualify. I'd bet it's still illegal, if someone were to push it. Afterall, oil changes have nothing to do with tire wear. I could see a warranty like that insisting you bring it every 5k miles for a rotate/balance, but not all service. Its basically a coupon. No more illegal than points from Bass Pro or Dick's. : Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 23, 2011 Super User Posted January 23, 2011 Blue Streak said he had no problem with Abu, well I haven't either for freshwater and can say the same for Shimano used in freshwater, but it stops there. The problems with my Abu reels that I used in saltwater were my fault, the problems I had with my Shimano reels that were used in saltwater were not. Abu always took care of the problem in quick order with the highest degree of professionalism, my experiences with Shimano fell short of the standard set by Pure Fishing. Quote

And it happens anytime you say anything good about another reel brand. It is as if you are supposed to say "Shimano is by far the best but". It is getting old. Quote

Except I guess there's no law against that in the fishing world. There is in the automotive world, though. Quote
Georgia Jeff Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I purchased a Revo Inshore reel from them a good while ago. I applied for and they sent me a $10 rebate check in the mail that expired 6 months later. I placed it in such a secure place I found it about 3 weeks after it expired. I contacted them and they are sending me a new $10 rebate check. That in my mind is above and beyond the call of duty. I will keep this in mind when puchasing stuff in the future. Quote

I'm talking about free tires for life, simply for getting rotations and oil changes at the dealer. Toyota has a new free regular maintenance program offered, like BMW and a few other brands. None are illegal. Sheesh. : Quote
kadas Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Getting a reel filled with sand is certainly not the fault of the reel, I dropped it in the surf. Wanting to upgrade a good reel to a better one and getting the upgrade for free is just great customer relations, I offered to pay. Catching 150# fish ( several of them) on equipment designed for smaller species one may expect that the reel would wear down much faster, it did and was replaced for free, was went in for repair not replacement. The big S on the other hand denied my warranty on a spheros saying I used oil that was not there brand, does any car company deny a warranty if you get an oil change at Jiffy lube? In fact the oil I used was recommended to me by a satellite authorized repair center, Lott Bros. They played back and forth with the roller bearing on my stradic 4000 ( I've read about a rust problem with this reel many times, not just mine) finally fixing it only to have the reel start making noise from a completely different area of the reel. Originally the part was on backorder until Feb, this was last November, my local guy says he has trouble getting some Shimano parts also. Bottom line, they just don't stand up to the kind of fish I catch, probably why why many aren't seen down here. It was hardly a jab just saying I thought their service didn't compare. many others seem to agree Pure Fishing has great customer service, I never asked for a replacement, it was offered. Some may have had better luck than me, but waiting for a repair to come back in 3 or 4 weeks tells me they are busy fixing other reels or just slow to satisfy a customer. Quantum says 24 hour turn around time, I've never used and Pure Fishing gets a reel back in a week, postage paid by them. No doubt this is a Pro Shimano forum but that is not the case elsewhere, other reels seem to get more favorable attention. I'm sorry if some have had their feelings hurt, but that's the way i see it. Actually my mom bought a new Toyota and has to get the oil changed at the dealer or the warranty is off. Just sayin'. ;D I believe I would have to see that in writing in the warrenty--have 2 friends who are Techs at 2 different Toyota dealers and they ---NOPE--not Toyota's policy-- I have a 2 year old Camry--do not have to change oil at dealer BUT I do keep receipts from oil changes as proof that I have maintained it according to the warrenty :-? But they wouldn't be offereing them if they were not making money on them. Something to think about. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 24, 2011 Super User Posted January 24, 2011 Wow, you're right. I didn't think of it that way. Quote
