Fat-G Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 I've seen a couple threads like this on different forums. A lot of people have broken their Veritas on the FIRST hookset, even if it was a dink. http://www.tackletour.net/TTForums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=54123&hilit=veritias Quote
OHIO Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Mine came in the mail with three broken guides, so I'm not sure if I really trust them. It sure did feel nice though... Quote

That's ridiculous! I would be really ticked. From what I've gathered about fishing rods, a company can make an extremely light and sensitive rod, but it will have more breakage issues than other less sensitive rods. Basically, extremely light=easier to break, heavier=less likely to break but not as sensitive. Correct me if I'm wrong though. Quote
OHIO Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 That sounds about right. I guess it's the price you gotta pay though for sensitivity. Quote
lsufan334 Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 First Veritas i bought i received in the mail the week they were released. First cast and it broke about 6-8 inches from tip. Contacted the place i bought it from and they sent me a new one with some extras I have since bought 6 more Veritas casting and spinning and have had NO PROBLEMS with them. I have caught up to 7lb largemouths and some 3.5 lb spots. No complaints at all. Quote

I was wanting to get one, but after hearing this I think I'll wait till Abu looks over them to see what the problem is. They are exceptionally light, and they feel pretty sensitive for a $100 stick. I'll probably end up with one in a couple months. Maybe Abu will change something about them. Quote
Josh Bassman Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 It happens to all rods. Talk to enough people and you will find any story you want. I heard of two GLX's breaking. One was my fishing partners. Probably got bump in shipping or maybe at the manufacture. The other broken GLX was more then likely because of high sticking the rod... oops! $#!T happens. I don't hold it against the GLX rods and you shouldn't hold it against the Veritas. Quote
Revo_Carrot Stix Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Same incidents circulated with Carrot Stix a couple years ago, but I've never had any problems with mine. Quote
TBendBassin Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Hey FAT G you should start looking at those Caras like we talked about as far as carrot stix go ive witnessed my fishing partner snap two on the hookset and its not like he has a big giant hookset and to me the veritas and the carrot stix feel exactly the same. Dave P Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 There is a thread like this about every single rod ever introduced. I'm sure somewhere, there's a "I set the hook on a bluegill and my Ugly Stick snapped in half" thread ;D Quote
Super User webertime Posted January 23, 2011 Super User Posted January 23, 2011 There's an old saying I find very appropriate for this sort of thing. Light (sensitive), Strong, or Cheap... Pick 2... Quote
SeanW Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 I fished 1oz jigs the past 2 days with mine. I broke off about 20 jigs and I popped em pretty hard trying to free the jigs, the rods held up just fine. Rods do get damaged during shipping from time to time. I recall a rod company losing nearly and entire shipping container of rods from shipping. Talk about major bummer, stuff happens when shipping. Quote
Texasfishingtips Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 People said the same thing about Skeet Reese rods. I've have 3 of them and have not had one problem. Clancy W Quote
Carrington Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 i broke a vendetta on the first fish on the hook set and it was a 1 pound fish lol. This is why im done with abu garcia. They send me a new one and i use and havnt broken it yet but im still not gonna buy another. Quote

I broke my carrot stick this last Monday almost exactly in the middle of the rod > . I was throwing a rattletrap and got bumped and just did a side sweep hookset and it just layed over like it was halfway cut through already. The company wants 40 for the replacement plus it's going to cost 20 for shipping. You can find them for 70 dollars discontinued around here so I think I'll just throw it away and stick to my St. Croix rods . Quote
R520dvx Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 We have sold probably 50 Veritas rods .... we have yet to have one come back. Many factors involved on rod breakage. How was it shipped? How was it stored? How was it handled in the tackle store? We pay VERY close attention to people in our store handling the rods. Quote
VolFan Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 What he siad. A clean break probably isn't the manufacturing process; it's more likely from handling issues be they the owners or while in shipping. That everyone thinks there's a huge problem with this or that rod goes back to an old restaurant saying: Give someone a good experience, they'll tell 10 people, screw up therir night, they'll tell 10,000. Super User Grey Wolf Posted January 23, 2011 Super User Posted January 23, 2011 Crap happens especially with new products , give them a year or two. Quote

What, I can't do the "Ugly Stik" test with your rods ? : Quote
BassThumb Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Crap happens especially with new products , give them a year or two. Very true, there's always some kinks that need to be ironed out. Look at Dobyns Gen 1 breakage issues, NRX handles, iPods/iPhone software, DLP HDTVs and the white dot plague, and more high-tech cellphone issues than I can name. Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted January 23, 2011 Super User Posted January 23, 2011 breaking rods isnt a big deal. its the service you get once you try to cash in that warranty that matters to me. i broke a lot of rods in 2010 and i wont buy a few brands because of what had to be done to get the "warranty". Years ago I had 3 Loomis IMX rods in a row do this to me. They charged me $50 a piece, Abu charged you nothing. Dont see anything to complain about. Quote

That's a good point, in a similar thread SirSnookAlot said he has had a bunch of Abu reels that he has had to send back, and Abu replaced or upgraded all of them. My brother had a terrible experience with Abu reels, so I thought I would never buy one, but after hearing how easy the customer service is to deal with I think it might be a good investment. If I ever have a problem, they would just replace or upgrade for free. Yeah, that sounds like a good investment. Might need to get an STX. Quote
