Super User bilgerat Posted January 22, 2011 Super User Posted January 22, 2011 http://www.fenwickfishing.com/cat.php?k=10321 I ordered the 6' 8" ultra light. It's a new line of rods by them, and my first Fenwick. I'm gonna break the state record (10.14) with it, just you wait.... ;D They market it as a trout rod. We'll see about that. Quote
BassThumb Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Nice looking rod. You'll have some fun with that. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted January 22, 2011 Super User Posted January 22, 2011 Looks great! Are you going to run 4lb line or what? Also, what reel are you putting on this rod? On that 10.14 or bigger fish, if you hook-up in open water, you should be able to get her in!! Quote
Super User Dan: Posted January 22, 2011 Super User Posted January 22, 2011 I've been looking at those rods for a little while. I want to get either an UL or L to use as for a perch rod. Quote

It will have this on it in the 25 size, which is roughly the 500 size most are familiar with: http://www.riversideoutdoors.ca/catalog/images/SupremeXT.jpg Right now it's spooled with Sufix Performance braid in 10/4 (10 lb test, 4 lb dia.) I may go with the new Sufix 832 because of the slightly better sinking capability. I run about a 6' leader of 4lb. mono. I may have the spare spool all mono if the fishing situation dictates it. Mono can be a real bear on small reels though. Lots of KVD Line treatment.... Quote
Super User grimlin Posted January 22, 2011 Super User Posted January 22, 2011 I like to go after Bluegills in the summer time with a buddy of mine who only gets to fish 1 or twice a year. I'm in need of a new light combo.....This is starting to look good.... ;D Quote

Especially when the bite is off but they'll still take smaller baits. Quote

Especially when the bite is off but they'll still take smaller baits. That's the problem...the one i have now only handles bluegills. I'd like it to be able to handle other species as well. It's not uncommon for me getting bites from walleyes and losing em' on this cheap one i have now. Quote

Works great! Quote
BassThumb Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Are there any trout streams in South Jersey? You could sling tiny a Mepps spinner a mile with that rig. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted January 23, 2011 Author Super User Posted January 23, 2011 Are there any trout streams in South Jersey? You could sling tiny a Mepps spinner a mile with that rig. No. Trout fishing in my part of the state is a joke. Any trout here are stocked. Opening day on most lakes here is quite a sight. Shoulder to shoulder on every available inch of shoreline and boats filling the lake. The horn blasts and 500 bobbers hit the water at once ;D When it's over there's fishing related litter everywhere. I think I've bought two trout stamps my whole life. About slinging that tiny Mepps a mile, that's one of the reasons I wanted at least a 6'6" ul rod. Not many rodmakers besides St. Croix and Loomis make them longer than 5' 6" Quote
BassThumb Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 That sounds like a disaster! They blast a horn?!?! I gotta see this. LOL I have to settle for my 4.5 - 6' UL setups. I love fishing little Mepps spinners for trout and panfish. They don't feel like such a "dummy lure" like bobber rigs, and they make panfishing a lot of fun. Our bass fishing season doesn't open until Labor Day and it's a way to pass the time. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 23, 2011 Super User Posted January 23, 2011 Looks like a beautifully made rod. They need to make it in these specs, though ;D Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted January 23, 2011 Super User Posted January 23, 2011 I have really considered the 7'2"L River Runner as a Crappie, Bream, and small bait rod, just haven't pulled the trigger yet. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted January 23, 2011 Super User Posted January 23, 2011 Browning, Raven, G.Loomis, St. Croix... That happens to be a cheapo Browning Six Rivers. Quote
I.rar Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 i think you will love it. 8-) ..... ive only went out with it once and landed a small 1#er , but i already love it. when they said , fast tip with a soft action , they were right on. weightless plastics are very easy to cast and get good distance with and snap casting is a breeze. the TAC handle is fantastic. its very comfortable to fish all day with (something i was looking for in a light rod) and sensitivity is more than i would expect out of a rod at its price. components are obviously quality along with the cork and the metal accents and real seat screw? are a nice touch. however the one in the part that twists is plastic. i have my 801 on there now and it balances pretty nice. line management is still a minor issue with this reel so a new 1000 size reel may be in its future. this weird weather has been making fishing super slow and the peas have lockjaw. hopefully things will warm up soon and i can hook into a fish with some more size and fight and put up more of a review. Super User bilgerat Posted January 23, 2011 Author Super User Posted January 23, 2011 Duuuuuuuude.... You're killin' me.... I wonder if it's against the law to thaw an entire lake with a flamethrower ? Good deal. I'm glad you like it. That's a long ferrule section. I can't see the sections separating with that. Thanks for the close up pics, they really show the build quality. P.S. - Get some U-40 on that cork.. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 23, 2011 Super User Posted January 23, 2011 Yep, seal that cork up! That's a nice looking rod. Quote
I.rar Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 is there anything besides u40 i could use? i cant seem to find anywhere that has it locally through an internet search. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 23, 2011 Super User Posted January 23, 2011 That's all I would use. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted January 23, 2011 Author Super User Posted January 23, 2011 Cabela's has it OR you could pm .RM. (used to be 'Reel Mechanic) I got mine from him a couple of years ago. I don't know if he still sells supplies or not. Quote
