Incheon Basser Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Just for fun I thought some may enjoy these pics. they make everything look good over here!! Shakespeare Jupiter JS662L & JS662ML Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted January 22, 2011 Super User Posted January 22, 2011 Interesting. Do you know yet how they fish? The name on the rod "God of Lurestick" is interesting - is that the result of literal translation of a Korean phrase to English? I'm always curious about why some of the tackle companies have more interesting product lines in some of the other national markets than here in the U.S. I'm sure there's a complex mix of business reasons to justify the different regional product lines but some of the stuff I see seems like it would sell in the U.S. Thanks for the pics. I appreciate the insight that you and Marauder Yak provide for products coming out of Korea. Quote

I appreciate the insight that you and Marauder Yak provide for products coming out of Korea. I haven't fished them yet seeing I just got them but they seem to be decent. I've fished a lot of Shakespeare as a kid and the quality is higher than anything in the states. the reason for the difference is the marketing teams design there own domestic product. they pick and choose different items from across the world choose the stuff they feel will work and design new product they feel will sell better. I personally feel the reason we don't see hot looking rods out of the states is because the marketing staff is old and out of date in a lot of the big box makers they are afraid to make a change. Things are changing though like what Abu Garcia is doing and other new brands that pop up all the time I would bet that this rod would out sell any rod Shakespeare US currently has out on the market 10 to 1 if in a head to head contest and priced the same. this rod cost about 47 dollars but tackle is double here what it is in the states. Super User BASSclary Posted January 22, 2011 Super User Posted January 22, 2011 I'm one of those conservatives who just doesn't like the look of those JDM/KDM rods. Quote
The Rooster Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 I really like that rod's looks. And based on just the picture it does look like it is much higher than average quality for a Shakespeare, the ones I'm used to seeing anyway. That said though, I still like my Ugly Stiks. And I also think there will always be a place for the "plain jane" rods that are traditional looking. But there should also be room for the flashier rods too. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted January 23, 2011 Super User Posted January 23, 2011 They look like UL trout rods to me - any specs? And I guess I don't understand the point of the marketing dept. designing rods.....wouldn't it be more ideal for the fishing staff to be part of the process? Seems like just the opposite of ideal. Don't get me wrong, they look like quality, but are they actually any better than anything else here? Can you compare them to something domestically available? Quote
