I'm looking for a reel to pair with my veritas and would like to find something for $100 or less. I have read really good reviews of the Bass pro pro qualifer's and Revo's but have not felt either of them. Any other suggestions for reels around this price range would be great. I will be using it for jigging and have read 7:1 ratios are good to catch up to the fish? Sort of new with that stuff really.

Also which of these reels are the smallest? I love the size of my Abu Garcia silver max and compared to other reels I've felt it's smaller so I would like a smaller sized reel.

Any help appreciated.

If you could swing $17 more I recommend the Shimano Citica 201E (a lefty) for $117.  I have three and they are really incredible reels.  Small,  powerful and built like a tank..  I put ABEC7 ceramic bearings in mine, but the stock bearings are excellent.  The drag is so good I did not bother upgrading them.  Shimano does not plan on replacing the Citica as they did the Curado models.

The Citica 200E and the Curado 200E are built on the same platform, so why would they keep one and replace the other?

I would also recommend the Citica 201E. I own the same reel and although it's a 6.3:1 ratio (all Citica's are), they're great all-purpose bass fishing reels and have a ton of performance for the price.

I also own two Quantum PT-series baitcasters and they have performed very well. When buying new, though, the Citica is a better value, IMO.

No doubt I will get hammered for this one but-----

I throw Shimano Calais and love them, I also have a BPS Johnny Morris reel for about $119 and it feels about the same as the Calais. I love it and would recommend it and would buy another one. It casts a country mile and is smoooooth.

You could call the BPS catalog return store in Springfield, MO where they go through and repair their returned reels if needed and sell them at a big discount. Might give them a try.

Def. check out the Abu Garcia Orra SX ($99.95). These reels are a great buy. Good quality reel for a great price. Would pair great with your rod! Offered in HS or standard models. Lefty only offered I believe in 6:4.1

The Pro Qualifier comes in lefty and 7.1.1, and that would be my recomendation.

Hmm, really interested in the Orra Sx and was going to order one until someone posted about Revo S reconditioned for like 66$ with shipping. Now I don't know if I should try to get that for such a cheap price or just go with the Orra? Anyone have any experiences with reconditioned reels? Any suggestions on what you would do?

Is there a warranty on the reconditioned reel? Also if you go on Abu Garcias web site http://www.abugarcia.com/products/reels/low-profile-baitcast-reels/orra/orra-sx  they are offering a boat load of rebates.

I too was using Silver Max's for a while and started upgrading from them.  I have found that the Abu Revo S is very close to the same size and feels maybe even a little smaller. I like the Revo S but to get different ratios you have to buy difernet models. I kept looking and have settled on BPS Extremes. Every ratio has a LH model available and they are not as expensive. The Pro Qualifer is also a very good reel but a little extra $$.

The Daiwa Exceler comes in a lefty version and also come in 7.x:1 ratio and can be had on Ebay for less than $80. Awhile back Bassmaster did a article on budget reels both spinning and baitcasting and the Exceler came on on top in both categories.

I prefer the Revo. As far as size goes, that is going to have an effect on line capacity. The Revo does me well from 8lb to 25lb fluoro.

I really like my Revos, but when comparing the Revo S vs the Citica I have to give the nod to the Citica hands down.

The BPS Pro Qualifier is also an outstanding reel, especially when they are on sale.  Also the BPS Johnny Morris Gold Reel is on close out on the BPS website for $129 and is an excellent reel also.

Later, :)

thanks for all the responses guys!

Ok, someone on a local site I go on is selling a Revo STX for around 100 and i can meet up with him so no shipping. I never really looked into the STX's because it was out of my price range. Is this deal the most worth it? Better than getting a new Orra for that price? Hmm, I hate not knowing what to do haha

As long as the reel is in great shape this is a great deal! The STX is only a notch under the PREMIER (top of the line). GET IT!

Any idea what year the STX is?  Many '09's were blown out for $99 or so.  The '10's have yet to be in that range.  Either are very good reels, but you shouldn't have trouble finding '09's used for $100 or less.

Yeah, I was just about to bring this up. Check. If that's for a 2010, that's a steal of a deal.

hahaha hey Dean!

Didn't know you read these forums as well. I was just browsing and saw "DeanFishesNY" and lo and behold!

Haha that's really funny.

For everyone else, I am the guy who's selling the revo. It indeed is a '09 model, but in excellent condition and comes with the box and all the original papers, oil, wrench, etc. I'll send you a PM lol
