Revo line and what use.......

    I have decided to get a few REVOS for my arsenal and was wondering what you guys liked about them.

    Also what reels do you like for what applications (SX, STX, or Premier) and what ratios for what applications.

I highly recommend sticking with the STX and Premiers, both absolutely great reels. I just started using the Premiers this week, but have used STXs for a long time.

I like Premiers on all my rods under 7'3 and STXs on all my rods over 7'3. It helps with the balance of the rod, and over all feeling. Typically this means all my heavy flipping, and power fishing is done with the STX, and my more finesse stuff on the Premier.

I use high speeds for everything.

Like David P said, the STX and Premier.  I have a STX-HS on my 7'3 rod and Premiers on my 7' rods also, he is right about the weight balance.  The STX reels are a bit heavier and the longer rods seem to balance alot better for me also.

The Abadabadoo reels may not be everyones cup of tea, as they are somewhat finicky on the initial setup.  But once you get them dialed in, they are a dream to fish with.  I've only owned AG reels personally, but have had the chance to fish other setups.  For what I want to spend, the AG reels fits in nicely

I find the SX to be better than the E series Curado myself. I never used mag controls, having only used Shimano's and C3's before. I never found the SX to be finicky at all. The STX when it first came out was finicky to me and I returned it quickly.  I also find the Revo's easier to disassemble and clean than the Curado.

  David is right on in his advice. I will add that for punching and flipping I use the Revo S. No need to spend more for a punch reel that Im gonna abuse. I have STX's and Premiers on all my other casting rods.

   One thing I dont get from another post is the reels being finicky. I find em very easy to adjust.

Sean, I've read that "OTHERS" have found them to be finicky (I apologize if my thoughts may have been misleading), but that could be attributed to that reel being the first baitcaster that they've owned, or they not know how to properly adjust a bait cast reel.

I have three Revos (2 STX's and 1 S). One STX with a 7.1:1 ratio, is used for pitching/punching heavy cover with jigs (15 lb flouro). The other STX, with a 6.4:1, I use for topwater frogs and toads (braid), and the S is a backup reel, that is mostly used for plastics (12lb Abrasix). I feel that for mid priced reels, they are all great, and offer an exceptional value. I also never had a single issue with setup or day to day use.

I have a SX with mag brakes and like it.  All my other reels are Shimano but the Abu has measured up so far.  Personally, I favor the more 'normal' 6.4:1 gear set.  The High Speed is just too fast for some applications, IMO.
