jdw174 Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Never fished with the Bucoo's....have only looked at them in local stores. I do own three Excels, two casting and one spinning, and really like them. The spinning rod is the 703S that I use for dropshotting...it's one of my favorite rods. The casting rods are both 705C's. Bassohol Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 I haven't fished with the Bucoos either, but I have spent a considerable amount of times playing around with them at my local outdoor store. I needed a lighter powered rod to put my Sol on to fish weightless plastics and light jigs and had it down between the Bucoo micro and the Excel micro. I ended up going with the Excel micro and haven't regretted it. I do have to say, though, if you are looking at the micro models, I like the Fuji guides on the Bucoo a lot more than the American Tackle guides on the Excel. But, that is really just a cosmetic preference. All in all you really can't go wrong with either and at the prices both those rods are at and the performance you get for it, I may just end up with the Falcon, too! Quote
The Bassinator Posted January 18, 2011 Author Posted January 18, 2011 Would the 704C be ok for crankbaits? Quote
MNGeorge Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 I know absolutely nothing about the Falcon rods, but I have an Excel 705C. I would highly recommend you find somewhere to test the Excel before you buy one. In my opinion, they are considerably over rated with respect to the lure weights and the action. Lamiglas rates the 705C as a fast action, 5 power and lure weights from 1/4 to 1 ounce. The action is not that fast, in fact, I'd call it more of a moderate action, suitable for crankbaits. As to the lure weight rating, there is no way the 705C will throw a lure weighing much over 1/2 oz., much less a 1 ounce lure. Don't get me wrong...I actually like the 705C and have several uses in mind for it, but it is far from satisfactory for what I originally bought it for. I bought it sight unseen just going by the specs...had I actually been able to hold one and flex it, I would never have bought it. Quote
Red Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Excel. I have the 7116C, 734C, 704C, and the 703C. Love every one of them. Lifetime warranty, Made in the USA, can't go wrong. Quote
FishinTN Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 I have 3 excels, 1 spinning and 2 casting. I actually found them to be underrated for their power ratings. More in line with the veritas... I like them for the money. Quote
