flippin and pitchin Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Interesting. My local tackle dealer has had almost no success with Diawa products. The mother of all polls left out Ardent, Browning, Okuma and several others. The options for consumers boggles the mind. Quote

In reality, I dont think the numbers sold of those particular brands wouldnt be all that high? Quote
tnbassfisher Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 I'm on the Shimano bandwagon for both. But if I was going to let off it would be for a baitcaster. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted December 5, 2010 Super User Posted December 5, 2010 This forum has a bias towards Shimano, not all forums do, much of it having to do with regional preference and target species. As far as spinning goes I pick Abu #1 and Shimano has been demoted to last place. Not saying the stradic is a bad reel (but way over priced) the combination of unavailable parts, slow turn around time for repairs and not really standing up to salt water has me losing my Shimano appeal. IMO for freshwater a Pflueger supreme is all you need, smooth, durable but if customer service is needed it's very fast, sufficient drag and the price is right. Quote
Ern Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 I'll Take Shimano for Spinnning. Hands down Everytime! For baitcaster it is open territory. Abu, Shimano, and Diawa have all been good to me. Have been looking at the BPS reels some this month and liking them too. Quote
Super User Alpster Posted December 5, 2010 Super User Posted December 5, 2010 Silly Pol.......there's SHIMANO, and then there's those other kind I have heard about.... Ronnie Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted December 5, 2010 Super User Posted December 5, 2010 NBR wrote, frankly can't tell a rats difference in any. AMEN, and AMEN and AMEN!!!!!! Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 I had to go BPS seeing as i own 3 of them and tha'ts more than the other choices. I didn't see a pflueger spinning or that would have been my choice (i have the medilist and trion both have been very dependable) Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted December 5, 2010 Super User Posted December 5, 2010 Frankly I agree with NBR. I use BPS, but I have used Shimano, Diawa, still use some Garcia Abu baitcasters. I love "em" all. I guess I am a fishing tackle addict. This is just so much fun! Happy Holidays to all you guys. Hope you all get EVERY piece of tackle you want for Christmas! Quote
Stasher1 Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 I probably would've left Penn Spinning off the list and replaced it with Pflueger Spinning, but that's just me. 85-90% of the time I'm going to be using spinning gear, and all of my spinning reels except one lonely little Daiwa have the Pflueger name on 'em. Quote
OHIO Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 I chose BPS for baitcasting and Abu for spinning. I was pretty surprised Quantum wasn't up there. Quote
Lcomfort Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 I fish only Daiwa, I own some other brands but they are just for the Display case. If Im on the water its Daiwa reels and Daiwa, Evergreen or Megabass Rods and a custom or two. Quote
trevor Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Shimano Spinning, Ardent or Daiwa Baitcasting. But I can roll with anything. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted December 5, 2010 Super User Posted December 5, 2010 I have had great luck with Shimano since the early 80's. I have owned other brands, but Shimano has great service, and is local to me, so I'll stick with them. 8-) Quote
Hooked_On_Bass Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Case queens - Casting: Daiwa Daily use - Casting: Shimano Daily use - Spinning: Shimano Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 My choice for baitcasting was Daiwa as I own and Exceler and a Prodigy which is made by Daiwa. Quantum wasn't listed but my Daiwas spend more time on the water. As far as spinning goes I couldn't make a choice cause Quantum wasn't listed and as far as spinning setups 3 out of my 5 setups are Quantum. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 6, 2010 Super User Posted December 6, 2010 In fact, Roadwarrior owns more Abus than I do. Touche'! The STX is still "in training". Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Shimano Curado 200 E5 "Dont leave home without it." Quote
Carrington Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Where are the penn baitcasters? thats all i use for saltwater. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted December 6, 2010 Super User Posted December 6, 2010 I chose Shimano for spinning. The reel I have is the smoothest spinning reel that I have ever owned. For bait casting I chose Shimano also. I have some abus but I will probably buy another curado the next time that I need one. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 7, 2010 Super User Posted December 7, 2010 Surprising.... Shimano usually gets 59% or more of the total vote in these polls. : Quote
1inStripes Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 Im a reel ho. Right now I use only Daiwa Exceler's on my spinning setups, but I would like to give Penn a try. As for baitcaster's, Im still tinkering with them, own a motley crew. I am still looking to add another manufacturer to two to that BC collection as well. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted December 7, 2010 Super User Posted December 7, 2010 Nobody has managed to hold me hostage yet but Daiwa is getting awful close. I'm still a bit of a free spirit I guess. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted December 8, 2010 Super User Posted December 8, 2010 I have used mostly Shimano and Daiwa and like their quality. However, the Pflueger Patriarch XT is one beautifully built reel and I am definitely tempted. Quote
