atrocity123 Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Need some input on an all around flipping to punching rod hybrid. I'd be using 1/2 to 1 1/2 ounce rigs. Looking for something relatively light and is balanced, not tip heavy. Fishing lilies and snot. I've been looking at, in the order of likeness: -A.R. Wreckin Stix Rod 7'6" Heavy Perfect Flip -Powell Endurance Flippin Rod 7'7" Med Hvy -Crucial Flipping Cast Rod 7'11" Heavy Anyone have any experience with these rods? Thanks Quote
SeanW Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Ive used the Powell 775 Enduarance and the 7105. I preffered the 7105 cause I like the longer rod. Then again Im switching to the Veritas and Verdict this year. Quote
atrocity123 Posted January 8, 2011 Author Posted January 8, 2011 Do you find either of them to be tip heavy? Quote
SeanW Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 After fishing the Veritas? The Veritas is just flat out lighter. But to be honest I thought the Powells were fine. Im still gonna be using the 7105 as my 1oz to 1.5oz punch rod. Im using an Irod Punch rod for the 2oz stuff and a 7'6MH Abu Verdict for 3/4oz and standard flipping. Quote
curls00 Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 SeanW: Sorry to hijack the thread, but I'm looking at that exact Verdict (7'6" MH/F) for my pitchin/flippin, usually 3/4oz jigs. How's the rod performing? Is it actually lighter than the already very-light Veritas line of rods? Opinions very much appreciated! Quote

Yes the Verdict is noticeably lighter and more sensitive. Not sure what else I can say about the rods. They are great rods, and there is nothing a that price that comes close. Get a few, you wont regret it. Me Ive got 2 of each. Quote
Super User David P Posted January 8, 2011 Super User Posted January 8, 2011 I've heard good things about the Crucial flipping stick. My complaints with the Powells is that they feel heavier because they're tip heavy, more so with the 7'6 and longer rods. Another rod not on your list to consider would be a Dobyns 766 Savvy Series, in the same price range. Probably will be happy with anything you pick, but just a though. Also, I've never fished the A.R rods so I can't comment on those. Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted January 9, 2011 Super User Posted January 9, 2011 I've got a pair of Crucial Flippin sticks now. I'll be buying a third at some point. Very happy with them. Quote
GLoomis711 Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 My dad owns the Wreckin' Stix 7'4'' Flipping Rod. Awesome rod, except the hook keeper is a hole in the trigger. The first few times my dad used it, it gave him a big blister. But other than that, nice. The grips are sick ! Quote
atrocity123 Posted January 15, 2011 Author Posted January 15, 2011 went with the Dobyns Savvy 735. Anyone know the modulus ratings on the Savvy's? Quote
