Stasher1 Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Hmmm.... One of these for $300... or two of these for the same price... I know which way I'd go. Quote
Super User Raul Posted January 7, 2011 Super User Posted January 7, 2011 Man, there 's a word to describe the reel ------> Fugly ! Quote
21farms Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 haha...wait till you see their anniversary edition baitcasting reel! it's in the 2011 catalog i received a few days ago but not yet online. it is a green daiwa zillion ;D Quote
hitchhiker Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 I think it's silly for Cabelas to commission a reel like that. They should have made 50 or so and given them to their top employees. Those reels will not sell well I think. x2 Bargain Cave fodder. Depending on if/when they end up in the bargain cave and how much they ask 50% off ? Then I might buy one. Quote

Super User .RM. Posted January 7, 2011 Super User Posted January 7, 2011 Have serviced a lot of Daiwa's in my 27 yrs of servicing reels, and there ISN'T any spinning reel made that is worth that kind of money...Tight Lines!! I disagree with your opinion. My Stella is worth every penny. If I had the disposable income to replace all of my spinning reels with Stellas I'd do it in a heartbeat. In terms of the ugly green reel in the original post...man that thing is hideous! Yup you sure would need a lot of disposable income. I have been into a lot of the Shimano SP reels and IMPO you will not find $700.00 worth of parts or quality in them either.. Tight Lines! Quote

Super User islandbass Posted January 9, 2011 Super User Posted January 9, 2011 Hmmm. I don't know why, but a green symetre is aesthetically pleasing to my eye, but that fuego looks awful. Raul's fugly is quite descript and accurate. Big NO Thank you on this. It's show-stoppin' ugly and this is coming from someone who usually considers takes function over beauty. Not in this case. : Quote
0119 Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 You all hate it cause its green....just like your beloved and beautiful Curado. If it was made by Shimano you'd all be buying 'em up. Thats what makes it ugly on this board...its not a Shimano. Quote

Just sayin' the green ain't so bad...it's the logo on the side that looks cheesy. and to me, gold accents is SO 1980's The body copy says 6+1 bearings but the specs chart right after say 10+1 I think this reel might actually create some sales if it does have 11 bearings. For people who are willing to pay retail for a regular zillion, I suppose an 11 bearing one for $10 more might actually be a decent deal. Not sure if it will appeal to enthusiasts though. Quote

I noticed that as well. I think it looks cool, and even if you don't like the cabelas logo on the side, it'll wear off eventually Quote

However, ugly is ugly, Shimano or not. That is an UGLY reel no matter who you are. At least for me, I am not brand loyal for the sake of being brand loyal. Can't speak for any one belonging to a possee. Quote

Pa Angler Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I would not. Fuego = Fire = Red. All my Fuegos are bright red and I like them that way. Also, $300 is more than I'm willing to pay for a spinning reel. I agree, I don't even pay $300 for rod and reel $225 tops times are tough for an average angler bucking up $300 for a reel. Tight Lines Pa Angler Quote

Even if I had an endless stream of cash to spend on fishing gear, there's no spinning reel worth that kinda cash. Diawa, Shimano, super ultra custom whatever, it doesn't matter, it's a waste IMO. northern basser Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I think its been said on this forum a number of times- As far as reels go, anything above the $150-$200 range and the bang for buck ratio starts going way down. As far as color goes, its nice to match reels to rods and what not, but I'm much more concerned w/ performance. Also, a scratch resistant coating is nice. The Patriarch xt seems to be scratchproof. I picked up one of the new Supreme XT's and haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but that Patriarch XT is really catching my eye. Quote
TrippyJai Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 When I clicked on the initial link, I though it was one of the ugly reel and probably something cheaply made. I was shocked to see it was $300! Then I realized it was made by Daiwa, but still shocked to see $300 considering how boring it looked. I agree the gold Cabela logo on the spool didn't help either.
