Super User dodgeguy Posted January 11, 2011 Super User Posted January 11, 2011 there seems to be an equal amount of issues from every rod/reel/tackle manufacturer on the sites i visit. again, if it's made by humans, there will be duds. start keeping track of it. Quote
jamarkwe Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 i have been for many a year.Crunch some numbers and give us some figures Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted January 11, 2011 Super User Posted January 11, 2011 i haven't actually kept track of it i'm going by instinct.i would be willing to say if you did keep track of it you might find i was right. Quote

bassinbrian Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 I just received my NRX yesterday and looks great but I have had time to put the reel on it. Ive been a little worried Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 11, 2011 Super User Posted January 11, 2011 Hmm.... I have a few G.Loomis rods, some going back 14 years or so. I have used the Xpeditor service when I rolled a window up on a rod. Several friends fish G.Loomis and some of their friends, too! I don't recall anyone ever having an issue that wasn't resolved to their complete satisfaction. 8-) Quote

The one time I did use it, it was to replace a rod that was ran over by my truck in the garage :'(. I spent a little over $50 and had a new rod in hand 2 days later. I know the expeditor service has gone up since I last used it but I have no complaints with the rods. I know this situation was different but If I had to put my money on it I'd say that majority of the time a Loomis rod is replaced it was because of something the owner accidentally did. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 11, 2011 Super User Posted January 11, 2011 I broke my Shimano steelhead rod on a fish last month. Took it back to Gander, replaced under warranty. I didn't post up about it until now. I've also broken 5/6 Kistlers. Funny, the one that lives on is the ML drop shot rod. I rarely post about those, since I caught a bajillion good fish on all of them, and they were my gateway to better rods. I didn't make any claims on them. I've also broke three St. Croixs. All my fault, replaced under their Gold Star Service Plan. Going way back, I broke a Daiwa LT, and two Tournament Procaster SSi rods. Also a Berkley Accuflex Series one on a ceiling fan - THAT WASN'T EVEN ON! Hmmmm...what else. Silstar Pinnacle float rod. Pinnacle Steelhead rod. Yeah, across the board.... Quote
FishinTN Posted January 11, 2011 Author Posted January 11, 2011 I broke a St. Croix Mojo bass spinning rod last year on a hook set. About the second trip out with it. St. Croix replaced for no charge what so ever. Just me shipping it back to them. Called and offered me a credit for it's amount and apply that toward a higher end rod if I so desired. I now own a LTB, very happy with it. Kinda a blessing in disguise. I'm satisfied with the NRX deal, it was just aggravating it broke the first time I put a reel to it. Quote
MarauderYak Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 If you have a NRX casting rod with a manufacturing number smaller than MF-62014, I'd contact Loomis about having it replaced. These early rods had multiple manufacturing issues with the handle & foregrip. Keep in mind that the Xpeditor cannot be used with NRX rods as well. If you find a defect, I'd think you'd want to contact Loomis rather than use your golded ticket. IMO, there's just too many manufacturing issues with these rods to make them worth the risk. Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 I have 32 G Loomis Rods, 15 Cabelas Rods, 10 Bass Pro Shop Rods, 6 Shimano Rods, 3 Pflueger Rods, 2 Berkley Rods, 2 Diawa Rods, 2 Sage Rods, 2 March Brown Rods, 2 Abu Garcia Rods, 1 St. Croix Rod, 1 Gander Mountain Rod & 1 Jarvis Rod. Of all these rods that I have fished with on a somewhat regular basis for the past 15 years, I have only broken one. That one rod was a Bass Pro Shops Bionic Blade. Therefore, from my personal sample size, I conclude that Bass Pro Shops rods break at an infinitely higher frequency than G Loomis, Cabelas, Shimano, Pflueger, Berkley, Daiwa, Sage, March Brown, Abu Garcia, St. Croix, Gander Mountain & Jarvis. Super User Bassn Blvd Posted January 12, 2011 Super User Posted January 12, 2011 Help me understand this thread because I think I'm lost. 1. A NRX rod was defected. 2. It was returned. 3. No wild card was used. 4. Loomis stood behind their work and replaced the rod at no cost to the owner. So what's the problem? : Hmmmm, I just took possession of my brand new $400k Bentley. Oh No, a scratch from the manufacturer. Holly Hell Batman, return the car and never buy one again because Bentley's must suck ;D. Quote

If you want to make the comparison more realistic, then you'd have to say that several models of the new Bentley had to be pulled off the sales floor because drivers couldn't fit inside them. Then on most the other models, the first several production runs had hoods that were likely to split open and/or windshields that would fly off while you were driving. Then, if you look over most any car for sale today, there were minor flaws in the paint, or a trim piece not lined up, or even a taillight lense missing. For the top of the line car/rod, I would personally expect more. Quote
