JigMe Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 my local tackle shop has a new stradic FG for sale, I think its a older model of stradic. Is it worth 100 bucks, or should I just cough up the extra 60 bucks and get the new stradic? Are there any major difference between the two reels? Quote
Nibbles Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 I've heard Stradic CI4 owners complain that it tends to act funny when wet. Quote

I prefer it over my other stradics and even my sustain. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted January 8, 2011 Super User Posted January 8, 2011 I've heard Stradic CI4 owners complain that it tends to act funny when wet. Do you have evidence to back this up or are you just spreading rumors ? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 8, 2011 Super User Posted January 8, 2011 I've used mine in drowning rain, and sub freezing temps. No issues yet. The only mod I've done to mine is a Carbontex drag replacement. Quote
CWilliams Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 I was hoping for a response from nibbles..... Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted January 9, 2011 Super User Posted January 9, 2011 Shimano wet binding issues were for real some years ago. I had a Sahara that drove me nuts. I'm pretty sure that particular problem ran it's course some time ago. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 10, 2011 Super User Posted January 10, 2011 They WERE an issue, a few years ago, totally turned many off the brand. I have a 1000 FG, and this was supposedly one of the "binders." Its never bound up for me. BTW, CI4 helped catch the fish in the avatar. The 1000 FG caught this fish. Quote
JigMe Posted January 10, 2011 Author Posted January 10, 2011 What about FI? CI4 is a bit too rich for me right now. Quote
CWilliams Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I never had the binding issue with any of my Stradic reels. I would use my FGs river fishing and was not carefull with them at all.First I heard of the binding issues was when I joined these forums. If I had binding problems there is no way I would countinue to buy Stradics. I am not claiming the problem did not exist......just happy I did not experience it. My CI4's have all been great, so far. Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 10, 2011 Super User Posted January 10, 2011 If it were me I'd pay the extra and buy the fi, imo an excellent freshwater reel. As far as the fg goes $100 is more than it's worth to me, it's old technology and should be closed out at no than $75.00 I was eyeballing this Quantum Cabo at Sports Authority couple of years ago, (in the showcase on clearance for 6 months), $79 bucks, great deal. I went up to the manager and said " you really want to move this item, what's your best deal, I walked out paying $59. Quote
fathom Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 never had the binding issue with any of the older stradics, either. that said, have to agree with sirsnookalot here...the fg sold for $119 new...even nib, a discontiued fg should go for a little less than that $100. ymmv. Quote
