Taylor Fishin 4 life Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Hey guys I just won a G Loomis rod of my choice with a limit of $250. Here is my question is do I want to put that kind of money into a cranking rod since i really dont need the sensitivity or should i get another rod. Currently the rods I have are Falcon Bucoo 6-6 medium Falcon Bucoo 6-6 medium heavy Falcon Bucoo 7-0 Heavy Falcon Lowrider spinning rod 6-7 medium fast tip G-loomis IMX spining rod 6-6 medium-light Im leaning on just getting a all around rod med-heav at 7 feet. Do yall have any suggestions on what model I might want to consider and mabye something else i might want to look at too? Thanks, Taylor Quote
Carrington Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 just remeber that a medium heavy g.loomis is equal to like a medium in most other brands. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 9, 2011 Super User Posted January 9, 2011 Easily found for $250, maybe even GLX if you can find the right deal. I recommend being patient and buying on our Flea Market. All around and an all-time favorite: MBR 844C http://www.***.com/G_Loomis_Mag_Bass_IMX_Casting_Rods/descpage-GLMIXCR.html 8-) Quote
Taylor Fishin 4 life Posted January 9, 2011 Author Posted January 9, 2011 I dont think I can wait for a good deal since I won it on kayakbassfishing.com and they are getting the rod from one of their sponsors. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 9, 2011 Super User Posted January 9, 2011 If you can kick in a couple of bucks, get the IMX MBR844C. 8-) Quote
Taylor Fishin 4 life Posted January 9, 2011 Author Posted January 9, 2011 That seems like a good rod road warrior, but I was also thinking about the 7-1 frog rod, Do you know much about it? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 9, 2011 Super User Posted January 9, 2011 Nope. I have the GLX MBR 844C, MBR 784C, MBR842C, PR844C, PR844S and BCR845. My other rods are St. Croix, Dobyns and Lamiglas. I think you will be happy with whichever you choose. 8-) Quote
Taylor Fishin 4 life Posted January 9, 2011 Author Posted January 9, 2011 yea I dont think I could complain with a free Loomis Quote
fathom Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 am with roadwarrior on this one. the mbr843 imx or the mbr844 imx are hard to beat in the loomis line. Quote
steezy Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 GLoomis MBR 843 GLX is tough to beat and can be used for almost anything. Quote
dmat Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Congrats on the win...you cant go wrong with any free rod! If you need a cranking rod then get the cranking rod...as far as i'm concerned sensitivity is just as important for cranks/spinnerbaits as it is for worms and jigs. Whenever you are fishing you need to know whats going on with your lure. For an "all around rod" go for the MBR843 IMX...unless you can kick in some money and get the GLX. Don Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted January 10, 2011 Super User Posted January 10, 2011 I just ordered the CBR906 yesterday. It was $245. It's 7'6 M/H crankbait rod. I already have the 843. If you need a rod where sensitivity is an issue then do not get anything under the IMX model. In other words, don't buy the GL2 or GL3. You're not going to get the GLX for $250 but I believe you can get the IMX for that. As RW and others said, You can't beat the MBR843 or MBR844 as an all around rod. I personally liked the 843 because it was a tad lighter and easier to throw topwater plugs if I needed to. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 10, 2011 Super User Posted January 10, 2011 For everyone else, Deb & Greg have several of their GLX for sale dirt cheap on the Flea Market. I just bought a BCR893 for $240. 8-) Quote
Fish Chris Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I only have one strong piece of advice..... Go find the G Loomis rod your considering, to handle it in person, first ! I would never choose a rod, based on numbers / specs alone. That said, my favorite / only G Loomis rods are my micro-light SR 720's, 6ft, 1 piece 1-4 lb, which are actually just GL II's, and are among the cheapesat G Loomis rods on the market. However, if I had a $250 prize limit, I'd go with the 6 1/2 ft G Loomis micro-light, which is in a higher series, and run about $230. That's just me though. I have plenty of normal weight bass gear already, anyway. Peace, Fish Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 10, 2011 Super User Posted January 10, 2011 GLoomis MBR 843 GLX is tough to beat and can be used for almost anything. What about the MBR842C/ Core 50MG you sold? I'll stick with the 844 as my recommendation for all-around, but my "favorite" combo has become the 842/Core. 8-) Quote

Im gonna make you fish with one of them this year on the roadtrip and you're gonna like it! Quote
