Super User bilgerat Posted January 6, 2011 Super User Posted January 6, 2011 I'm considering this for my new UL rod : http://www.basspro.com/Fenwick-Elite-Tech-River-Runner-Spinning-Rods/product/10210426/-1743464 Now I realize UL is in the minority here, but anyone with real feedback on Fenwicks in general please chime in. I e-mailed them to ask about the warranty. It's limited lifetime to the original owner. PLEASE, no "save a few more dollars and get the ____" or "My neighbor's cousin's plumber had one and said it sucked" I just want to hear from people that have handled them and their honest opinions. Thanks Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted January 6, 2011 Super User Posted January 6, 2011 I haven't used them but I have really considered the 7'2''L as a bluegill/crappie/small bait bass rod. I tried to get one from a local tackle store but they didn't have them for sale at the show they went to. I will be going to BPS in a week or two and wonder if they have them in-store. Quote
trevor Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 I have a HMX I use for flipping and frogging and I LOVE it. Great sensitivity, nice components. Very pretty rod, as well. I actually just got the new BPS catalog today and saw that rod. It looks like the perfect rod for wading the little streams around my house and catching smallmouth and rock bass. If I had the kind of dough to blow, I'd pair that with a Saros 2000 and some 4 lb Elite and have one sick stream combo. But alas, I have not the financial means to blow $240 on a stream combo. Quote
I.rar Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 they do look nice. i was like this || close to ordering one with my BPS cards but went for the st croix. the only fenwick ive own or fished with is my 6'6" mh/f eagle gt casting rod. i dont take it with me often. but that should be a huge step up in performance from mine. if you do pick it up , review please. btw , he isnt a plumber , but my neighbor is a tow truck driver and said.... ;D Quote
Aluma-Bass Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 i have 2 fenwick rods and like them alot! Quote
Bassohol Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 My fishing buddy just got an HMX in the other day. The first thing he did was call me and say, "man this rod feels awesome." He came over that next day and let me give it a try. I have to agree with him. It was a fantastic feeling rod and a great price on it as well. Quote
Jacob0434 Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 I don't have a elite tech river runner rod Yet , but I do own quite a few fenwick rods ranging from small river flyrods, bass rods, to steelhead rods. In my opinon I think the HMG and the Techna AV rods are stellar and the old elite tech bass rods where quite nice as well. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted January 7, 2011 Super User Posted January 7, 2011 I have an HMG I use for flippin/pitchin and love it. Quote
Super User Micro Posted January 8, 2011 Super User Posted January 8, 2011 I have more than a dozen HMGs and one Elite Tech Crankshaft rod. The HMGs are light, and very sensitive. The Crankshaft is very nice, too. I highly recommend Fenwick. Not only do they offer a solid performing and well made rod for a reasonable price, their customer service is very good. I've broken one HMG and called Fenwick. They told me to take the rod back to my seller and exchange it. The seller told me they service the warranty for the first 6 months or year (can't remember which). It was a no-questions-asked trade-out. After that, you can send them to Fenwick. I'm told by my dealer and friends that they have a very quick turnaround on warranty replacements. Quote
bmadd Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 I have two Techna AVs. 7' and 6'6" MHF casting rods. I love them. I've gotten rid of cumaras, falcon caras, and an avid because I don't like them compared to the Techna AV. Quote
Blue Streak Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 I have used Fenwick rods for years and have tried several models and actions and have been satisfied with them all and have had very few problems over many years of fishing. I don't think you can buy a bad Fenwick. Their guarantee and customer service is very good also. I can't say anything bad about Fenwick, their Tecna AV rods may be the best on the market right now. Super User bilgerat Posted January 8, 2011 Author Super User Posted January 8, 2011 Wow, I'm pleasantly surprised by the positive responses. I didn't realize that many of you owned them. I just may pull the trigger on this one. Quote
I.rar Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 well , i wasnt pleased with the 'croix today. very tip heavy and fatiguing when continuously casting. so the 6'8" light fenwick may be next. my dumb question is , it being a 'trout rod' , would that make it a bad choice for a decent sized bass and peacock rod? ive never fished for trout so i dont know how they handle , but i do know peas make some serious hard runs. LAO162 Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 I was very happy with my Techna AV's. I sold them primarily because I was looking for different rod features. I am very comfortable recommending them. Quote

Ultra liite is ultra lite. They're just marketing it as a trout rod because normal, sane people don't use ul gear to go after bass. I guess I'm neither Actually it's the ul nature of the rod that allows the use of 4 to 6 lb test. The rod acts as somewhat of a shock absorber. A reel with a top notch drag is a must also. Quote
