Murieta Bass Man Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 Is anyone out there using the St. Croix Legend Tournament Bass Rods? I am thinking about purchasing a few, but I wanted some feedback from someone who has actually fished them before I make my final decision. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 I like these blanks a lot and readily recommend them for custom builds. Quote
RussBert Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 I have three and won't hestitate to buy more. Light, balanced, sensitive ...and they're made in the US! I like supporting fellow workers here. We all need jobs Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted December 23, 2010 Super User Posted December 23, 2010 I have 2 now, and sold another last year. They are nice rods, but they don't have a big "bang for the buck" feel to me. I have the 6'6" M power, fast action casting rod , called a "Jerkbait" rod by St Croix. And the 7' M power, fast action "Teaser". I use both rods for almost the same things, Senkos, finess jigs, shallow and lipless cranks, soft and hard jerkbaits. I like the 7'er better, and I am parting with the 6'6". I also had and sold the 7'6" MH power, moderate fast "Pitching rod". I actually disliked this rod, very unbalanced and heavy. Never liked it for pitching at all, I ended up using it as a C-rig rod, the rod and I got along better doing that. I didn't pay full price for those LTB rods, I got them for $149 when the cleared them out for the split grip one a few years ago.If I had to pay full price, I'd buy Avids........I can't tell a whole lot of difference between them, and the Avids are cheaper. 0119 Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 I enjoy the Sniper Spinnerbait model alot, The action is perfect. But handle the rod with a reel on it if you can. The handle part of the split grip is so small I have difficulty getting a good grip for single handed casting. And I dont have very big hands. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted December 24, 2010 Super User Posted December 24, 2010 I liked mine better than my Cumara. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 24, 2010 Super User Posted December 24, 2010 I find it really matters what reel you put on a rod once you get into the lighter sticks. I have the Teaser, Sweeper, and a custom build on the 7-9 Swimbait. The Teaser pretty much stunk with a super light Alphas Ito Ai. Plop a Zillion on there, and its a great for lighter feel baits. The Sweeper needed a lighter reel. The swimbait was setup to balance out a Calcutta. I have the Avid version of the Sweeper, and that rod was a dud with a Daiwa TD-A HSTA. I put a TD-X 103HSDL, and it was a different rod. The moral is, you gotta put a reel on the rod and get a feel. Quote
bassinbrian Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 I have the 6'6" jig & worm, and 7' small cranker. Both are great rods and would recommend them to anyone . Quote

I did not like the Teaser or Jerkbait with a Fuego on either, put heavier Revos on them...........much better. As for the 7'6" Pitching rod, light reels were also terrible, but it took me plopping a 12oz Abu round reel on there to get it where I wanted it........no thanks. I ended up fishing with an older Quantum Accurist PT and a balancing kit for a while before I grew tired of that rod. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted December 24, 2010 Super User Posted December 24, 2010 St Croix LT rods are excellent. So are the Avids. I have some of each, and frankly don't see that the LT's are $50-60 better, across the line. You won't go wrong buying an LTB, but take a good look at the Avid series before you make your choice. Having said that, my favorite combo is a 6'9" ML-XF LT rod paired with an Alphas 103F. This combo is so light in the hand, and will cast the lightest of baits, that it is just a blast to fish with. jj2 Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 I have the 7' med-hvy finnese jig paired with a pflueger patriarc that I use for pitchin jigs and creatures it balances well and is very sensitive. I'm planning on getting more when I have the money. I have a couple of the mojo's so the price won't be to bad with st croix's trade up program 1 Quote
