VAfishin4me Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 I'm looking for a jig reel as a gift to my dad. *** has the Daiwa Viento for 90 dollars. The original price was 210. Have any of you used this reel and had good experiences? I like Daiwa in general, but I want a reel that I know he will like and will perform well. I am a little skeptical of the twitch bar or button also. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted December 17, 2010 Super User Posted December 17, 2010 The twitchin bar is just an annoyance i'll never use. Im a daiwa fan but I would pass to get something without the twitchin bar. Not trying to bash the twitchin bar its a good idea, just not for me. Do you have a price range? Quote
Red Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 I just got mine from TW the other day. I haven't fished with it yet, but I did use my brothers over the summer. I like it, it is nice and smooth and casts great. As for the twitchin bar, I don't really know as I did not use his reel enough to say weather I like it or not. It did not seem to be in the way or anything like that. For the great price from TW I would by it. If you don't use the twitchin bar oh well, still have a great reel. Quote
Quillback Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 I have one myself, as said before, the twitching bar is not in the way so if you don't want to use it, it's no problemo. I use it mainly for pitching jigs and it has worked fine for me. Good value for $89. Quote
VAfishin4me Posted December 18, 2010 Author Posted December 18, 2010 All right thanks guys. Sounds like I'll get it. Quote
breezy Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 I've been considering picking up a Viento with the TW sale also. How is it going to stack up with a Revo S/SX or Curado E series? Maybe even compared to the BPS CarbonLite? I've been trying to piece together a very light combo, already have a carbonlite rod. I realize the Viento isn't "light" by any means, but at such a reduced price it's a very tempting offer. Quote
Nibbles Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 If it's a light setup you're looking for I would suggest looking into getting a used Daiwa Fuego or Sol. Fuegos can be had for around 100-120 used, and Sols anywhere from 120-150 used. Heck, I sold a BNIB Fuego to a forum member for 120 a while back. There will be more. Quote
