I just want to know what is a good wacky rig setup would be what kind of rod action do i need and have fast gear ratio . Many people I talk to say you need a medium light or medium action rod what is you opinion and what is your setup choice ?

It depends somewhat on the weight of the baits you are throwing. Wacky rigged senko-style baits are easy to throw on most spinning rods.

For flimsier baits it is nice to have a little tip movement so you can get some casting distance.

I was thinking about getting a rod specifically for wacky rigs, but it turned out I had a rod that did fine, as far as casting at least. I am using a 6'10" Kistler Mag, MH.

I think they say it is fast action, but I have no problem throwing wacky rigged finesse worms with it.

I have an older AllStar SRMHTN, MH action that I use for all my Senko/Wacky rigging.  It's paired with an AbuGarcia reel and 20lb Spiderwire Stealth braid.  Works great for skipping, too. :)

Yeah I also use a heavier rod than what is usually recommended. I usually fish wacky rigs around alot of cover, so I need to steer the fish around alot.

I have a couple dozen spinning rigs for that presentation.

The most effective set-ups involve the bait being thrown.

95% of the time I am using either a Zoom Finesse or Zoom Trick worm.

For the finesse worm, I use a 6' medium action rod.

For the Trick worm, I use a 6'6" medium heavy rod.

With both I use the Shimano spinning reels with the 6.2:1 gear ratio.

I only fish Senkos (rarely) with baitcasting gear.

I will use a wacky rig on just about any combo I have, depends on what size bait, and/or how heavy the cover is, if  I am putting the bait  into open holes in heavy milfoil, I'll use a flipping stick and heavy line like 17lb fluorocarbon or 50lb braid. Or if I'm fishing deep water, out side the weeds I'll use a M power spinning rod with 8lb fluoro, or 10 braid, skipping docks I use a MH spinning rod w/30 lb braid, and just GP use I'll use a MH casting rod with 14 lb fluoro, or 30lb braid. I guess what I am saying is I wouldn't get tied to ONE set up for............well............anything, but in this case wacky rigs.
