Dean Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 Hey guys, I've been seeing alot of the stuff that can be done to fix up and re-paint older and scratched up lures. This really looks like a lot of fun, and I would like to give it a try. I'm going to get an airbrush tomorrow at the local hobbie store, and my dad already has alot of different color paints. So far, I've searched my entire house and not came up with much in terms of beat up lures. Not asking to buy any lures, all i'm asking for some beat up lures(rusted hooks, scratched, chipped, ect.) I don't need that many, I just need a decent amount to get started. If anyone has any interest just let me know. Thanks ahead of time. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted February 16, 2008 Super User Posted February 16, 2008 they dont even have to be beat up. try re-painting a crankbait that is in a color you dont like. thats what i did with fourbizz...i gave him a bunch of never before used firetiger baits and hes gonna paint em in tenn shad for me. Dean Posted February 16, 2008 Author Posted February 16, 2008 dsaavedra, I really don't wanna mess up my good baits though. I'd rather mess up on some older lures or some worn out ones, which is why i'm asking if anybody has any. Thanks for the thought though. Quote

If you will start out just using acrylics, you can use a mixture of water and windex to remove the paint as many times as you want. Save up $3.50, go to Wally World and get you a Norman DLN in white. Perfect size to practice and it will have a white base so you won't have to prime it(just make sure you dull it). Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted February 16, 2008 Super User Posted February 16, 2008 if you're planning on messing up (which is a safe plan) then maybe you want to practice on a piece of wood first? go to the hardware store and pick up a a few 3/4" dowel rods or something and just paint lots of stuff on them. it will give you the practice you need for when you want to step up and try baits. Bass XL Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 it may sound lame, but go to some garage sales. They usually have some beat up or old lures that you can get for practically no money at all. Quote

It would make for a fun Saturday am product with my 8 year old son. Nice bonus if they had decent action and ran good in the water Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 16, 2008 Super User Posted February 16, 2008 Dave, Firetiger is a great color. Surprised you are not doing well with that color. You and your Dad need to drive down to the Rappahannock or Pamunkey Rivers this summer and give those firetigers some use. Quote
Other. Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 I agree with the others. Just use a few of the lures you do not use much anymore or practice with a blank sheet of wood. Quote
Dean Posted February 16, 2008 Author Posted February 16, 2008 Thanks for all the pointers guys, and sorry that I asked for freebies, I got a little carried away with myself last night. But everything you guys said was helpful, thank you very much! Quote
