new pro qualifier tournament edition

Wonder if anyone has one,,here in the south they go onsale thanksgiving ,,,but ive seen one allready on ebay,,,,and i seen a pic in my basspro flyer.  looks like a great reel...7.1 ounce ,aluminum frame, swept handle, dual braking,,,,79.99 ea

I have the origional pro qualifier.  It's a decent reel.  I love the dual brakes, but the smoothness is a little rough.  I cleaned it as soon as I got it and it felt better after that, but I don't know what Edwin Evers was thinking when he stated that most people think they are using a three hundred dollar reel.  My daiwa advantage leaves this reel in the dust.

I can see how someone who has not fished an expensive top of the line reel might draw a parallel. The Pro Q is a great value for the money, I think that's the real message.

I probably have about 10 of these ProQualifier Tournament reels.  The've been on sale on and off all year.  I also own several of the Carbonlite reels as well.  I'll tell you what, if you think $80-100 reels cannot be good, think again.  I have owned those $300 reels ... still so, have 4 of the Core 100MgFV.  These PQ Tourney reels cast nearly as well as the Cores.  PLUS they're just as light.  Love them ... I interchange the slow 5:1 gears out of a few of them off of the Revo Winch ... plus upgrade their bearings ... SMOOTH cranking reel!!!  Don't worry, go get a few.  I will when the go on sale this weekend.

Agreed.  I've got a bunch of PQ's and love them.  They aint no Core though.

I've got a couple of them and really like them.  I've swapped the handles out for Carbonlite handles on them.  I'm hoping BPS brings out a 7:1 Carbonlite next year so I can swap gears in these 2 reels.   

They perform well with 1/4-3/4 oz lures, they engage well after the cast, they are really smooth, light weight and are comfortable to palm.  I really don't expect much more out of a reel.

i went to bass pro in leeds alabama and bought two each of the pro qualifiers tournament edition reels that were available for purchase here in the south beginning today,,,,7.1 ounces super palmable very smooth as smooth as my curados and feels eerily like my patriarch,,,i like the grips and well ive been in the yard chnking an 1/8 ounce worm weight on my all star platinum 845mc a pretty long ways...id say they r worth 79.99

I wanna double check... I heard they are Graphite Frame. You sure they are aluminum? Cause it doesn't say that in my Flyer.

BPS website description says the PQ has a "one-piece machined aluminum frame."

I really like the tournament reel. It's kind of a combination pro qualifier and carbonlite. Great reel

Probably stirring up a hornet's nest; but the regular PQ is no Citica E either (I've got both), even with dual brakes.

The (regular) PQ is a very good $100 reel, and an excellent $69 reel when they are on sale; no more, no less.

i have the pq tournament edition and i think its more smoother and much more comfertable then the pq. its more quite on the casts.

I just ran out and picked one up at lunch. As far as I know the sale ends today. Initial impression is good. Palms great, is really light at 7.05 ozs and the paint is beautiful. When the light hits it changes color almost like a curado, but more noticeably.

My only gripe is the handle seems a bit short, but time will tell once I actually fish it.

Maybe there will be another sale before Chirstmas.

They are nice reels for the money.  It is one of my last BPS reels in my possession. 

BTW they aren't new, I've had mine for about a year and a half.  Before the carbonlite came out, which I believe is the same reel except for the carbon fiber handle and paint job.

pretty certain they're graphite end plates.

First impression was badmouthing you guy's bragging about this reel. Looked like a matchbox car, paint job and the light weight reminded me of a toy.

Took it all apart, cleaned it out,and spooled it up with 30lbs braid. Gotta say I'm pretty impressed so far with my few test casts in the yard...

Prior to getting the 2 I've got I was worried about the paint job, but it's more subdued than what it appears in pictures.  You put a camera flash on it though and watch out!!

I'm pretty sure Pro Qualifier gears in 5.4:1 & 4.7:1 will work in these reels, they work in the Carbonlite.  Both of these reels are a good option for a light weight deep crank reel. Stock (6.4:1) I measured 25" IPT.  I contacted BPS R&R repair and they said the 7:1 gears won't work.  The "reel grip" knobs can be replaced if you want.  They don't feel bad, but they look kinda funky to me.

I actually just ordered the 7:1. I bought the 6:4 first and loved it so much I ordered another, but a little higher ratio. I'm going to put this one on a 7.5" or 8" rod for burning spinner baits and cranks.

I think you will love it. For the price you can't beat it. I can't tell a major difference between it and some of the $150+ reels I have. I'm not sure how long they last (I keep very good care of my gear) compared to the more expensive...only time will tell. I would go for it. Get one..or two
