BWAAAAHAAAAAHAAAAAAAHAAAA!!!! you gotta be kidding me a drunk bass wouldnt bite one of these" How many big bass have been caught on these pieces of fossillised feces, really maybe like 0 max?

I just found one of the shad lures that came with my brothers beginners kit. The first thing i noticed was the strong smell of plastic then the eyes fell out. :-? What a piece of *****.

As far as plastics go, the only storm baits that work (for me) are the rattle finesse worms. Those things catch a bass every time, the problem is that i cant find it anymore, and i've checked ebay but the calors werent the ones i wanted. They were amazing baits though, caught an 8lb fish one day and two days later caught a 5lb. Anyway, as for swimbaits, i havent had any success with them, and i dont plan to either!  ;)

Compare these baits.

Top to bottom:

Huddleston

Yum Sweetcheeks

Storm Kickn' Minnow

Mattlures Bluegill

Mattlures Baby Bass

Storm Wildeye

Castaic Platinum

Out of all of those, the Hudd and Mattlures baits are the best constructed. The Storm lures are the worst. The Wildeye is so darned head-heavy that it barely swims. It weighs a bit more than the Hudd, yet it casts like a boulder.

The only good thing about the Storm baits is that they are cheap. If you're into filling a tacklebox rather than catching fish, they're good. Otherwise they aren't worth picking up.

Hey Burley,

Cool collection but what the heck are those things sitting on?

Oh ya, the Storm baits stink (suck).  I have tried them in a few ponds where the bass will bite anything from popcorn to pieces of a tin can but they won't touch those Storm swimmbaits.

dsaavedra, the specfic wildeye bait you are talking about absolutely sucks.  But the original swimbaits they came out with work just fine.  I have caught plenty of bass over the last six years on the 4" version.

I don't think that bait wasn't designed to be cast.  I know some guys that have really good luck trolling these for striper and I have seen pics of numerous 8-14lb largemouth that they have caught while doing so.

why do deer always have their toungues hanging out when they die? every single dead deer i've seen has its toungue hanging out. lol.

Yeah, those swimbaits would probably work good for bluefish but I rarely target blues, and I know a few striper are caught off them, but they just aren't quality. I want to find a quality swimbait with amazing action that I could throw for striper, anyone know of one?

Just like any other lure there is a proper time and place. No lure will always catch fish.

In 2007 I picked up a pack of Storm swimbaits, and have caught around 60 fish on them, and over 30 of those fish in one day. With 1/4 of those fish being above average for the lakes I was fishing.

Just because you didn't catch fish on a lure doesn't mean it's crap, it just means you were either:

-not fishing the lure properly ie..too fast or too slow.

-fishing the lure in the wrong place whether that pertains to the water column or the actual spot (that may be void of fish).

or

-not fishing the lure in the proper conditions, ie.. water conditions, fronts, etc...

the only time when the storms are the proper bait for largemouth are when you are too cheap/broke.

I'm broke as a joke, but you won't find me throwing those turds.

only two good things by storm: wiggle warts and chug bugs

i second the wiggle wart. a great lower priced crank bait.

I am pretty sure Randall and Senko77 throw them.

Ask LBH, just cuz you throw "value priced" baits doesnt make you an idiot.....acting like an idiot makes you one.   :;)

Randall throws the kicktail, that is a different bait. I don't care what senko throws.

I don't have to ask LBH, he posts something along those lines twice a day.

I didn't call anyone an idiot. But you did. Way to go big guy.

I cannot comment on storm baits. Have only thrown a storm swimbait once in my life. I caught a 2 LB largemouth on it and thats it. I own a couple of these swimbaits and only thrown them that one time.

The only other storm lure I own is the Kickin Minnow which was reccomended by someone on this forum. I have not thrown this bait yet since I doubt it will work in the dead of winter but I plan to throw it in the spring, summer, and early fall. I have tested the kickin minnow in my pool and it seems like a good bait. Very nice action and it does not sink too fast. I think I will catch some bass on this lure...

I just revisited this thread and noticed the comment by 7magJake.  FYI , it has produced a lot of bass including trophy size ones on Lake Fork for some guides and their clients. It's just another tool, when used for the proper application, that will produce results.

the kickin minnows are great. i think i was the one who reccomended you actually  ;D. my only problem with them is that they are too fragile. but i've only caught one fish on them, hooked a huge snapper next cast and it just demolished the lure, so im not sure how well they hold up to multiple fish. it was still in perfect condition after the first fish though.

Since I got brought into this  :;) I do use a Storm swimbait at times and I have caught fish on it. I have caught some huge fish on it. But, If you would have asked me last year about Storm Swimbaits I would have given you an answer something like Fourbizz.  ;D The reality of it is that most of them don't compare them to the better baits out there. I just happened to find one particular bait completely by accident that worked in one particular situation that is very common where I fish. Don't ask which situation cause I am not telling. :-X It is in no way a great swimbait when compared to other baits out there like the ones made by Mattlures, 3:16, Huddleston, etc. but it does work and it will work if used in the right way in the right situation. I used to use the regular wildeye shads also that are head heavy. I knew when and where to use them and many of the Lake Fork guides do to. But, if you campare it to Mattlures new shad bait the Storm bait isn't even close which is why I don't use that particular bait any longer. The reason for all the negativity is simply that there is no comparison between a high quality made swimbait made by someone who understands what makes a great big fish swimbait and a Storm swimbait. The Storm is just not going to produce the same as the better designed baits. It's not just the Storm baits but many of the copy cats and brands that don't have designs that were made to catch big fish. The best example of this is the Basstrix bait. I have yet to see any company make a copy that is as good as the Basstrix bait. All of them I have seen or tried have come up short in one way or another even though in appearance they may look the same. That doesn't mean they won't catch fish. It means that they are not as good as the Basstrix or will not replace the Basstrix so I don't really have a use for them.

Randall have you tried the Bottomwalker?

That is a quality, head heavy bait that I really like. Pretty cheap too. Some of them have a fiber weedguard. I usually take it off, but sometimes it comes in real handy.

No, I haven't. Might have to give it a try.
