Super User .dsaavedra. Posted January 19, 2008 Super User Posted January 19, 2008 why do a lot of people seem to have a problem with storm wild eye swim shads? i think these look pretty darn good (i like the baby bass color) Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted January 19, 2008 Super User Posted January 19, 2008 I don't know, 'cause they suck. Quote
ABC123 Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 why do a lot of people seem to have a problem with storm wild eye swim shads? i think these look pretty darn good (i like the baby bass color) Two things... 1) It doesn't matter if you or I think they look great, it's what the fish think of them. 2) The placement of the eye (for tying the line on) doesn't look quite right to me. Looks more like a 'trap then a swimbait type bait. Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted January 19, 2008 Super User Posted January 19, 2008 A few seasons back I bought a couple bags of Storm swimbaits, and they have the most god-awful, artificial, plastic smell ever. I have run these baits under water, dried them off, and soaked them in Bang, and they still smell like the melting pot in a plastics factory. Quote
Fish Man Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 well in delaware and the chesapeake they work Quote
HesterIsGod Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 I bet that thing sinks like a rock. Nearly all storm swimbaits do. It may look cool but you wont think it cool when that treble hook is hanging up on 90 percent of the casts and the heavy weight of the lure is hanging up on the other 10 percent of the casts. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted January 19, 2008 Super User Posted January 19, 2008 it is a suspending bait. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted January 19, 2008 Super User Posted January 19, 2008 it is a suspending bait. ....would that be a suspending bait that sucks? ;D Quote
Super User burleytog Posted January 19, 2008 Super User Posted January 19, 2008 Compare these baits. Top to bottom: Huddleston Yum Sweetcheeks Storm Kickn' Minnow Mattlures Bluegill Mattlures Baby Bass Storm Wildeye Castaic Platinum Out of all of those, the Hudd and Mattlures baits are the best constructed. The Storm lures are the worst. The Wildeye is so darned head-heavy that it barely swims. It weighs a bit more than the Hudd, yet it casts like a boulder. The only good thing about the Storm baits is that they are cheap. If you're into filling a tacklebox rather than catching fish, they're good. Otherwise they aren't worth picking up. Quote
deadeye32. Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 cause you can buy them at target, and I hate that place with a passion. and they fall over on their side and swim like ***** Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted January 19, 2008 Super User Posted January 19, 2008 Burley, I had no idea you were a swimbait ho. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted January 19, 2008 Super User Posted January 19, 2008 He's not, he is a swimbait ho-lette. He is still in training despite my constant prodding to buy new baits ;D Quote
mattm Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Dsaaverda, The storm baits are just simply not as good. THey are not as well made, will not run as well, catch as many fish, or last as long as any of the other baits Burley posted. What they are is about to 15:1 cheaper for all the reasons as i've already listed. At the end of the day you have to decide what you are fishing for, what you can live with hanging on a stump and most importantly what you can afford. If all this points to the storm then fish it. You can't possibly hold a Mattlures ultimate bluegill and say the storm is better, or even close, but you also can't hold a storm and say there is noway i'm catching a fish with this. Quote
F@bio Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 They're more attractive to fisherman than to the fish, point is that storm lures try to make up for poor action with good looks. Quote

You find this attractive? http://www.hebeisen.ch/pic/30231.jpg Storm baits are cheap and will catch fish at times. For beginners they are fine but they are not my thing. In my opinion they suck. Super User .dsaavedra. Posted January 19, 2008 Author Super User Posted January 19, 2008 t-rig ive had alot of good success with taht kickin minnow that you posted a pic of. i meant to get more at BPS but i forgot. thats the only storm thing ive had success with though. i wasnt trying to bash anybody with this thread or anything, i honestly just wanted to know reasons why everybody doesnt like em. now i know a few. my only complaint is that the kickin minnows dont hold up to very many fish. BassFishingMachine Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Ive heard many good things about their wigglewart though, and their Chugbug is great. I used their large wild eye swim baits for striper off the jettis and they work ok (nothing amazing). But they are cheap to throw and you can fish them around the rocks with no worries. You get caught up alot when fishing the jettis I fish so I do have these in my arsenal for cheap striper baits to toss around the rocks. But if im casting off the beach instead of rocks I'll most likely choose a bomber or a Gibbs pencil popper over these swimbaits. As for freshwater I never tryed them, I seen a guy throwing them once and he caught a couple fish (nothing to brag about). He was throwing the 2-3 inch version I guess it was. But it didn't get me to buy a bag. For my freshwater bass fishing I like to throw only quality or things im very confident in, thats why storm swimbaits aren't in my arsenal for freshwater because I don't see them as quality (Just my opinion). By the way I'd love to know of a more quality medium sized swimbait to throw for striper that I would use off the beach instead of the rocks. Particularly in a bunker pattern or yellow/black pattern. Sorry if im hijacking a thread but, can I get a short response, or a PM on this? Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted January 19, 2008 Author Super User Posted January 19, 2008 dont know if you'd call it quality, but storm has a peanut bunker here Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted January 19, 2008 Super User Posted January 19, 2008 The Storm Wild Eye Shiner is used quite successfully on deep fish at Lake Fork. Quote

BassFishingMachine Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Hmm that peanut bunker does look cool, but Im going to resist being caught by the bait company as there known for catching fisherman with pretty looks hah. Thanks for the suggestion anyways though, might work good on cocktail blues when their feeding on the peanut bunker so I guess its worth looking into. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted January 19, 2008 Author Super User Posted January 19, 2008 im not trying to support the company or pressure you or anything, but they are only like 3 or 4 dollars for a 3 pack. i think they are worth just trying, who knows, maybe they will slay the stripers and you'll have the best lure, or they could suck horribly and your in the hole 4 dollars, which isnt that much of a set back. just something to think about. :-/ Quote
guitarkid Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 they're swimvaits do suck but for getting the feel of a swimbait they're good. try their tube with the worm inside it. these are good, and they don't smell as bad. The swimbaits have a "shrimp" scent and it does smell like plastic. Quote
LCpointerKILLA Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Since you're from up north, try catching bluefish with those. Don't guys up north who fish artificial for bluefish use those little mass produced swimbaits all the time? Quote

Don't guys up north who fish artificial for bluefish use those little mass produced swimbaits all the time? yeah dude they are super productive too. people catch bluefish and rockfish all the time on storm wild eye swim shads. cheap and effective. they are probably the most popular bait in the chesapeake bay area.
