KSRonH Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 I just spooled two spinning reels with Berkley Crystal and would like to hear from those who have used that line. Is there a better fused line for spinning? How does fused line compare to a braid on spinning equipment? Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted October 31, 2010 Super User Posted October 31, 2010 To me, it seems that it works about the same. I like the fireline crystal for throwing lucky crafts and other jerkbaits. Once I jerk it down and get it to where I want it to suspend, I can let it set a while and the line, being very visible above the water works asa strike indicator. Quote

Super User OkobojiEagle Posted November 1, 2010 Super User Posted November 1, 2010 Fused Fireline is a 4 strand line. I have more faith in a 6/8 strand line. I believe Sufix fuse is an 8 strand fused line, but doesn't come in a hi-vis color. My favorite spinning line is Spiderwire Ultra-Cast... 6/8 strand line with a decent coating. steve Quote
rubba bubba Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Crystal will work fine on a spinning reel - no memory, very round, and very soft. I've used it on spinning reels for several years. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 1, 2010 Super User Posted November 1, 2010 I used 14/6 in smoke and crystal for casting spoons and plugs for trout and salmon and had great success with it. It gets a little "fuzzy" with use, and the crystal can stain in colored water. Sub freezing conditions caused me to switch back to mono for this, but I see no reason it wouldn't work well for bass. Super User OkobojiEagle Posted November 2, 2010 Super User Posted November 2, 2010 Crystal will work fine on a spinning reel - no memory, very round, and very soft. I've used it on spinning reels for several years. I guess our frame of reference is different... I find it works very well on spinning gear IF you manually close the bail and give the line a little tug before you cast. I find fused Fireline to be quite flat and because of the coating, not particularly soft. It does soften as you break it in. steve Quote

I agree it softens as you break it in, much like Suffix. Maybe they changed how they make it as I haven't used it for a few years now? Quote
packman Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 I have been using 15 pound crystal on my spinning setup for a year now and love it! I have know problems with it. Quote
