bassin is addicting Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 what knot do you use? will improved clinch knot work....leaving the desired tag length and running it back through the hook eye to get the bait to stand out as much as possible.. :-/ thanks Quote
rubba bubba Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Should work. Most use the Palomar but give it a shot. What's important is after you run the tag end through and you pull the line tight (above and below the hook), that the hook sticks out horizontally. That's what you are aiming for. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 23, 2010 Super User Posted September 23, 2010 I use a Palomar, but my friend Noel uses a clinch knot. Works just fine for him. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted September 23, 2010 Super User Posted September 23, 2010 U se a palomar with a long tag Quote
bigfruits Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 i use palomar. make a long tag end and pass it through the top of the hook 'eye' after youve tied the hook. attach the sinker to the tag end. Quote
Owasco Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Use a Palomar with a long tag end then run the tag end back down through the eye of the hook. Pull it tight and the hook should stick straight out horizontally. Tie a drop shot sinker on the end at the desired length and cut the tag. The palomar works perfectly to keep the hook sticking out from the line rather than just hanging from it. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted September 23, 2010 Super User Posted September 23, 2010 The IC knot ought to work, but why bother tying it when the palomar can be tied faster. Not only that the Palomar also is easier to tie with less steps involved. In addition, if you're using braid, the IC knot is not the best choice. The other reason for me is in subfreezing weather. The palomar is easier to tie with frozen fingers. ;D I definitely use the IC knot for other things and I like this knot. But for drop shotting, the Palomar, if only for ease of use is the knot I prefer to use. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted September 24, 2010 Super User Posted September 24, 2010 Palomar... potentially quicker, stronger, and less likely to slip. Quote
basscattrent Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 There is no other knot to use other than a palomar knot. That is unless you like to :'( cry and cuss a lot. I have never broken off in all of my years of fishing light line at the knot. Quote
scrutch Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 palomar works great for me. X2 or is it X15? Quote
Super User Sam Posted October 17, 2010 Super User Posted October 17, 2010 The setup is designed for a Palomar knot. Quote
Super User Tin Posted October 17, 2010 Super User Posted October 17, 2010 Palomar Then clip the tag and tie on a broken rubber band to the weight... Quote
