Virtual Sunfish Lure

[Speckled Bass]

Does anyone on here know anything about this sunfish fly fishing lure?

I spoke to someone at Basspro and that person knew nothing about it.

Does anyone know if this is weedless?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It looks to me like a fly fishing streamer and the red rubber guard looks like a weed guard...hope the info helps

it it weedless. that monofiliment piece in front of the hook is the snag guard, they dont work too well so i dont bother to put them in, instead, i tie my flies upside down so t ha the hookpoint rides up and weight the bottom as a keel weight to ensure it stays riding up.

i personally dont like that sunfish in the link as its very bulky and unnatural looking. it would also be difficult to cast. i make an excellent bluegill imitator that is much more realistic looking and its so much easier to cast. that fly in the link looks like it would require about an 8 or 9 weight rod to cast mine only requires a 5 weight.

plus, a fly using that much deer hair would be a pain in the butt to tie!!!

It would be so hard to stack hair that neat. I use foam, puglisi fiber, and polar fibers to tie flies like this.

It took me years to learn how to stack hair and I don't think I could ever do it that good.

I stack hair mainly in bass bugs and frogs. The variety of colors in that sunfish would be very tricky.

that wouldnt be impossible, it would take alot of time, patience and material.

another bad thing about that fly is it would float on top. probably on its side ontop. that is unless it has some weighting system that i dont see.
