Loomis/Dobyns???

If you've actually fished with both a Loomis IMX MBR 844c and a Dobyns 704C, I'd appreciate your input comparing the two rods.  I broke my 844 and have initiated replacement for it through Loomis' Xpeditor program, but since it's now a "one time deal", I'm looking for a suitable replacement should I ever happen to break the replacement Loomis.

why are you looking for a replacement, just take care of your equipment.  ive never broken a rod due to myself.  look for a replacement once it breaks.

If you break your second one then sell it to me and I'll get it replaced.

Save your money and get the NRX, they're stronger than the GLX.

Yea i dont understand why you need a replacement now. I have only broke one pole in my life. Dont expect it to happen very often and take care of your equipment.

As far as the the your question. You cant go wrong with either, but i prefer Dobyns over Loomis. Better customer service IMO as well

I have fished both and I can say there's not much difference.

The balance point without a reel is about a 1/4 inch farther back on the Dobyns.

The Loomis grip is thinner. I have big hands so this is a big thing for me.

The weight is about the same. I'm sure there's a difference but I can't tell without a scale.

The power of the Loomis seems a little lighter.

Personally I prefer the Dobyns Rod. I like not having any cork forward of the reel seat. I like to put my finger on the rod for better feel I guess.

I like the balance when I have a Revo clamped down and I'm working a 1/4, 3/8, 1/2oz Jig or a C-Rig.

The hookset is always solid and I know I have enough power to get the fish out of whatever brush it's tucked in. For the price I really feel you can't beat a Dobyns Rod. Don't get me wrong I love a Loomis but nowadays I can't afford them.

The only time I ever broke a rod was becasue I slipped on a rock in the Rappahanock river.

Personally, I hate fore-grips in front of the reel seat. I also have heard about Dobyns excellent customer service, (Not saying that Loomis doesnt have great customer sservice). But another factor for me is I think the Dobyns look cooler. However looks may not mean alot to you.

It just seems like the Dobyns would be better for me. IMO when comparing the two rods, performance is about equal, but the little things like cork size and foregrips and looks, will cause more of a decision.

I sold my 844GLX and replaced it with a 734 quite some time ago and couldn't be more happy. Far better customer service, and more choices for models and lengths.

I have both rods, MBR 844 IMX and Dobyns Extreme 704. The DX704 feels lighter, more balanced, and more sensitive in my hands. I like the x-fast tip on the Dobyns, it provides for a more solid hookset. The Dobyns "no hassle replacement plan" is great as well as their customer service. If you decide to get the MBR 844 IMX, check out eBay, I listed a slightly used one on there yesterday  .

As to all you you who have not broken a rod, you don't fish enough 8-). I broke a Dobyns 683 C last week, totally my fault, while pitching to some shore line cover. My T-rig snagged in some grass and when I ripped it free, the 1/4 oz tungsten came flying back to me and struck the tip section of the blank. Three fish later, the tip broke at the second guide when the 2 lbr made a surge at the boat and I lifted the rod to guide it back. IT happens!!!!! When it does I prefer to walk in to my local Dobyns dealer, pay them $60 and walk out with a new rod.....

If customer service is a big factor, I can say that Dobyns has went well above what I consider fair for me recently. I like their rods quite well too.

I have a Loomis GLX... recently purchased off our Flea Market and its my favorite rod.

I'll be in the market for another reel in the spring and I will consider Dobyns if they are like a Loomis.

I also have a St. Croix Avid which I love too.

A rod that you love will certainly improve your fishing!

I owned both the GLX 844 and the DX704 and liked them about the same. If i were to buy one of those back I would go with the Dobyns because of the warranty factor. The Dobyns is also a nicer looking rod and sensitivity wise they are about the same IMO. Most of the GLX and DX rods i like about the same with the edge to Dobyns on warranty and bling bling, however, the only rod I truly like over any Dobyns offering is the MBR842 GLX which i also sold and need to replace. That rod is awsome.
