Lamiglass Excel opinions

i'm looking for a spinning rod and it was recommended that i take a look at a Lamiglass thats on sale at TW.

at $80 it's inside my price range.  i can't go any higher.

what's your opinion/experience with this rod?

i'm looking at the 6'6" M and looking to use it primarily for spinnerbaits.  i will be using 3/8oz spinners most of time.

do you think this rod will work for that weight ok??

i know if i "step" up another $20-$30 it would open up to more rods.....but i am at my limit at $80.

i'm looking for input on this rod in particular.

I've got a 703 spinning rod and I love it.  Handle/grip fit my big hands well.  I have it mounted with a Pflueger Supreme XT using 6lb Yo-Zuri and the spare spool with 15lb power pro.  The Excel handles both lines really well, this thing really nice...

I've used it for spinnerbaits, shaky heads, senkos, 1/8-1/4oz Texas Rigs, drop shots and small cranks.  I've landed a 4lb LM out of some pretty tough weeds and pulled in a 4+lb SM from 20FOW and never felt the could use any more power, nor was it like shooting a canary with an elephant gun.  703 is pretty sick my friend.

I do not think this rod can be beat at its regular price. No way, not by anybody. The blank used is the same blank as their certified pro series, which is in the $180.00 range. I even called Lamiglas to confirm this.

As someone who is has a certified pro rod in his arsenal, I can tell you you can feel the fish burp. Don't delay. Get the rod whose traits will fit the applications you plan to use it for and I will tell you that you will not regret it. You can thank me later. 8-)

I don't own the rod your looking at but I do own the Excel Frog Rod and can tell you that these rods are a steal even at the non sale price. IMO they can not be beat in this price range or even by some rods that cost 150 or more. Lamiglas hit a home run with the Excel.

Now I have not used a Spinning rod in years but looking at the ones you are I would maybe opt for, or at least think about, the 7ft MH model. A little more back bone plus it should be able to handle those 3/8oz spinnerbaits better.

I don't own a spinning Excel, but I do own the 703, 704,734,and 7116 in casting.  For that sale price BUY IT!!  Even at normal price they are great.  You won't be disappointed.  I use my 704 M for spinnerbaits.  I use it with braid and just this morning I horsed a 3lber out of some pretty heavy cover with it no problems.  It makes a great rod for spinnerbaits in my opinion.  Plus, lifetime warranty and made in the USA!!

i'm gonna pick up the 664. 6'6" M

and hope it does fine for the 3/8oz spinners.

since i don't own a truck i either have to get a 6'6" rod or a 2 piece if i get a 7 footer.  prob would have liked to get the 7" MH but it is a 1 piece..

so i hope i'm happy once i get it..

You can't beat the quality and performance at that price point. I have 3 of them (734c, 705 glass, and 704s) and have been very pleased with each of them. Lifetime warranty and made in the USA for $80. Can't beat it!

If you are going to throw 3/8 spinnerbaits go with the XL664S for sure.  This blank will triple as a plasitics, senko rod for you as well.  The previous comments are accurate and not over stated.  Anyone who has tried this series has been impresssed.  I own nine Excels and many other Lamiglas models. You won't be dissapointed.

i own one casting excel i like it a lot very sensitive but a little on heavy side.. but i would buy another

I bought a excel spinng rod ealier this year and love it. I just bought 2 casting rods a couple weeks ago. Fantsic rods, there is NO rod at the sale price that is equal to them. Like all others, I'd say it competes in the $150.00-180.00 range. Have been very impressed with them.

I have an excel and absolutely love it. Great sensitivity, looks, and proper action. The main drawback on these rods are the guides. Basically, they suck. Lamiglas went with American Tackle instead of Fuji to keep price down, which I  don't really mind. 3 different inserts have popped out of my rod already and I've had to pop them back into place. But still happy with the rod overall

Call the service manager, Ryan Taylor and tell him about your problem. My experience with Lamiglas service has been outstanding.  I'm confident they will do you right.

My buddy and I have 16 Excels combined with zero problems.
